I don't want to spoil much but they both pose a question of whether or not free will even exists in this universe. And in both cases the thought that everything was pre-planed by someone else feels too good to be true. Like, the villains had failed at breaking our heroes in one way so they are now trying to make them question everything about their life up to this point. Which is fucked up if you remember that this universe is influenced by Darkseid, who's all about the Anti-life equation, so convincing someone that their whole life was designed by someone else is basically like an extention of that.

Benevolent or malevolent, the force that you didn't know existed pushed you towards a certain path in life. You didn't really had a choice. What are you going to do now and does it even matter anymore?

And in both cases communication and connection with other people seems to be more important than ever. Both characters isolated themselves, and are susceptible to manipulation from those who seek to destroy them.

You can't tell me that those giant-ass robots won't mess with the city's infrastructure and won't deal massive property damages if they ever get into a fight.

It's a bit hard to explain but I think that the Spectrum in the Absolute Universe was hijacked and reprogrammed to function differently from how it's supposed to be.

People get Judged by a limited set of attributes and receive information about how things work with the Levels Of Light then follow the instructions they were given because it's basically the only information they have on what is going on. It's also possible that the acolytes basically receive programs to make sure they follow a certain way of thinking: Stewart and Gardner were repeating what they were told by the Oa and Jordan had a voice in his head that pushed him towards certain type of behavior.

But Jo and Re gained access to the Light by different means so they don't have any programming and because of that they feel a lot closer to how the Spectrum usually works.

Then Jo banished The Hand from Hal's body, but the power remained and without the "directive" he was able to reinterpret the idea of Chaotic Action and access the power of the Star Sapphire.

Because of that the illusion starts to crumble. The voice of Oa - which at this point feels more like a pre-programmed message sender - failed to recognize Hal's light, referring to it as [UNKNOWN]. Then we see that all four Levels Of Light have designated binary codes with pink being seen as an aberration. AND THEN WE SEE A MANHUNTER AS A FORCE THAT'S IMBEDDED INTO THE FABRIC OF REALITY
