“i think you’d be a good jester.”
Chihiro looked up from his light novel. “what?”
“i think you’d be a good jester,” you repeated.
you shrugged. “i don’t know. i just feel like you’d look good in a jingly hat.”
he closed his book. “you know there’s a difference between saying i’d look good in a jester hat, and saying i’d be a good jester?”
“can two things not be true at once?”
“oh, like you aren’t the authority on ‘mean’.”
“you wound me,” he stated with a blank expression and a hand to his chest.
“you look wounded,” you facetiously replied before nudging him with the tip of your foot.
“hey,” he reprimanded and swatted yourr foot away as the two of you sat on opposite ends of the couch.
“what gives me the ability to be a good jester?,” he asked. “i’m not good at comedy.”
you shrugged again. “you just have that face.”
“…okay, now i’m starting to get insulted.”
“no!! it’s not a bad thing! i love jesters.”
“they’re literally fools. you’re calling me a fool. or, comparing me to one. either way, not a good thing,” he crossed his arms.
“it’s a good thing for me,” you mumbled.
“and, why’s that? you have a thing for jesters?”
“i have a thing for you.”
“already been established.”
you pouted. “you could at least respond to my romanticisms.”
“i do. when they’re actually romantic. you’re comparing me to a clown. not romantic.”
“they’re one in the same.”
“no?? that’s like comparing a stand-up comedian to a clown,” she argued.
“hn…fine. but, at least tell me why you think i’m a jester,” he insisted, leaning closer.
“i don’t think you ARE a jester, but i compared you to one because you make me laugh,” you admitted.
“…you said my shark joke was terrible,” he pouted.
“yeah, terrible things can be funny.”
“oh, that’s it—,” he untangled his legs from yours and got up from the couch.
“wait, no!,” you grabbed his arm and pulled him back down, but he stood his ground (literally haha cuz he’s standing get it?)
“no, no, you missed your chance when you made fun of me. twice.”
“you know that was all in jest.”
“and yet, i’m offended. two things can be true at once.”
you gasped. “you dare use my words against me?”
Chihiro smirked and leaned down to meet your height. “yes, i do.”
but, in this foolish mistake, you yanked him back down onto the couch with you, quickly wrapping your arms around his waist to ensure he couldn’t and wouldn’t get up again.
“you don’t play fair..,” he muttered and refrained from embracing you back.
you rested your chin on his chest, looking up at his face with a pout. “hug me.”
“no. you called me a jester.”
“if i say your shark joke was good, will you hug me back?”
“no. it’ll be insincere.”
“big baby…,” you mumbled and scooched up to pepper small kisses around the corner of his mouth.
“stop it. you’re weakening my resolve,” he said as he turned his head up.
“good, that means it’s working.” you continued press butterfly kisses to his cheek.
after a few more seconds of this unbearable torture, Chihiro let out a long sigh and gave in. he wrapped his arms around your waist and leaned his head forward to bump the tip of his nose against yours.
“ah, yes, the plague,” you dramatically drawled.
despite his best efforts, he let out a quiet snort.
“i love you, too, shark boy.”
“oh, don’t mock me with failed jokes.”
“my jester, then,” you grinned.
