past / belied *

                                    hopelessness     overcomes     him    as    all     he     can     do     is     sit    there     experiencing     everything     she’s      feeling ,      but     cannot     take    action     to    help    until     she’s     witnessed     the     entire      vision.        brows    pull    together     in     pain     as     he     tries     to     be     patient.      they’ve     been     together     through     many    visions      [   …   ]        none    have    affected    her     quite     as    deeply    or    as     brutally    as    this    one.     as    she    begins    to     apologize ,      he     shakes     his     head.     the    last    thing    he    ever    wanted    her    to    apologize    for    was    feeling     and     taking    her     time    to    process    those     emotions.     the    confusion    he    felt    could     wait.      he    takes    hold    of    her    hand    in    an    attempt    to    help   ground    her    in    the   present.      just    as    he    gets    lost    in    the    past    sometimes ,     he    knows    that    the   future    or    possibility    of    it    could    be    just    as    haunting.      then    she    explains    and    he    understands.     ❛      none    of    us    experienced    and    saw    what    you    did ,     darlin’.      it    isn’t    stupid    ta    feel    that    loss.     ‘cause    you    did    lose    us    fer    a    minute    there ,     but    you    said    it ,     we    fixed    it.   ❜      he    draws   closer   to    her.         ❛     an’     i’m    right   here.     i     ain’t    goin’    anywhere    any    time    soon.    yer    stuck    seein’    these    cowboy     boots    every   day    fer   the   rest    forever.   ❜

𝐒𝐇𝐄'𝐒 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐁𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐒 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐃, 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐇𝐔𝐓 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐄𝐘𝐄𝐒 𝐀 𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐓𝐋𝐄 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐊𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐁𝐑𝐎𝐖. Alice lifts her hand to his chest, taking a few deep breaths to steady herself but the distress has set in too deeply. “Edward saw it too,” she says smally, opening her eyes and meeting his gaze with the whites of her eyes clouding with crimson and otherwise welling with tears. “Saw Carlisle die—” a thick tear rolls down her cheek. “Saw you die... and some of the wolves... and Esme and Edward came so close.” A little squeak leaves her throat as her breath hitches. 

❛ I  know. ❜   the  mental  images  haunt  him,  too.  sometimes  replayed  by  own  unconscious,  sometimes  picked  up  from  his  sister's  own  mind.  the  sight  is  never  not  gutting,  not  make  him  feel  sick  to  the  stomach  in  a  way  that  a  cold  one  like  them  should  ever  be  able  to  experience.  his  posture  straightens  as  though  preparing  for  whatever  blow  comes  his  way  with  alice's  words,  and  for  all  the  words  he  can  hear  he  is  unsure  what  can  he  say  to  relief  the  pain  or  soothe  the  trauma.  so  he  just  listens,  carefully  and  free  of  judgement,  and  with  his  ears  as  opposed  to  his  mind.    

❛ alice… ❜   her  name  drops  from  his  lips  with  worry.    ❛ stop  trying  to  set  yourself  on  fire  to  keep  everyone  else  warm. ❜   it  is  unfair  to  carry  the  burden  on  her  shoulders  all  alone  —  he  knows  she  knows  he  can  handle  it,  that  jasper  can  handle  it  too.   ❛ they  don't  have  to  know  if  you  don't  want  to  tell  them,  they  don't  even  have  to  understand.  they  just  have  to  be  understanding,  which  they  will  because  they  love  you,  they're  your  family.  we  all  are. ❜

𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐁𝐎𝐓𝐓𝐎𝐌 𝐋𝐈𝐏 𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒 𝐀𝐒 𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐒 𝐈𝐍 𝐀 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐊𝐘 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇, 𝐂𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐄𝐘𝐄𝐒 𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐄𝐄𝐋𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓 𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐒. She would hate for her family to see her bloodied eyes, and they would sure know she was upset if she cried but she’s been holding it too close and it’s burning her up. “I shouldn’t feel this way,” she says, insisting, almost pleading, “it wasn’t real.” When she opens her eyes two fat tears roll down her cheeks and the lower part of the whites of her eyes are crimson.
