searching for eloquence

the east coast is often crude and turbulent. but even the harshest urban streets become a mesmerizing wonderland with snow. 

schools close and with it, do social conventions. suddenly, being outside at 11:30 pm is acceptable. 

the child within each of us flickers to the surface for a brief moment of bliss. 

i  can’t imagine a day where i couldn’t touch it and imagine all the snowmen, forts, balls, and angels i’d once make, briefly reliving memories less familiar than the novel i’d witnessed read last month. 

tonight’s snow is perfectly sticky. oh, the fun my younger self would have had. 

many reminisce about risks their parents took, the hardships they faced, often of the degradation they experienced...all fueled by the desire to provide a better future, better opportunities for their children.  my mother was that person throughout our childhoods. 

my father, however, was on a different quest. he was intent on teaching us all of the things he wishes he’d known. he was in a hurry to transfer his brain into ours, so that we wouldn’t waste time learning the hard way.  it was an admirable goal.

surely, the juxtaposition of your tragic yet soothing saga is a mark of your greatness. 

i seek you to find Him. or do i seek Him to find you? 

a modern day Zainab (as) stands before us.  to be able to respond with politeness and dignity after being subjected to such a gruesome and horrific tragedy.... 

her daughter has broken our hearts. that officer shattered their family. may their pain not go to waste. 

may her child learn to overcome this trauma, may their family continue to be blessed with strength and patience. may we all be able to stand up against injustice with the dignity Diamond Reynolds. she’s a powerhouse. 

in prayer, we must constantly be aware of our niyyah, but not so consumed as to lose focus on the actions of the moment.
