Despite what others are saying, no, but it is something of a legacy title hero name that gets passed down. Carol is like the 7th Captain Marvel, before she took the title she was Ms. Marvel (after getting some alien dna), and before that she was just an ass kicking military gal. Marvel is trimming down the history of the comics to fit into a film format just like they do with all their movies. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the other captain marvels get little cameos or easter eggs sprinkled in.
