you started at him in shock. not only did he just reveal this to you, he said he loved you, not just liked.
“i—i mean, you’re you, i’ve been in love with you for a while.”
you couldn’t find it in yourself to reply, you’d always loved yuji like a friend. he’d been with you through thick and thin and obliviously there’d been times when you thought of him in a different light, but in the end he was always just yuji, your friend from middle school.
“i’m sorry i sprung this on you, you don’t have to answer and you can reject me if you don’t feel the same. i don’t want things to be awkward between us because of this.”
he was a good fake boyfriend, he was actually better than anyone else you’d dated before.
“i need time to think, this is all so sudden.”
“yeah, i figured. i’m really sorry, y/n.”
he left your house shortly after. it was awkward and different. you missed how things were before. laughing and joking with yuji.
you didn’t know how to feel. on one hand you liked yuji and he was basically perfect but you didn’t know if it would last, if dating would ruin your friendship you didn’t want it.

you heard a knock on your door and sprinted.
looking at yuji you felt like the biggest fool, how could you not see that you liked him?
he smiled and greeted you, you didn’t hear what he said, your thoughts only focused on his actions. how he acted normally just so you wouldn’t feel uncomfortable. you got filled with an overwhelming amount of warmth. how did you miss the small things he did for you?
the way he always made sure you were comfortable, like everything would be okay if you were happy. the way he looked at you like he saw you.
for a couple minutes you just stared at him, how were you so dense? how could you ever think about someone else when the perfect person was right in front of you?
“i don’t want things to change between us.”
yuji’s smile faltered at your words. “what do you mean y/n?” he laughed nervously.
“it’s fine i get it! to be honest i shouldn’t have said it anyway! i’ll try to move on and get over you, i’m so sorry for making you uncomfortable y/n. i don’t want to ruin our friendship so just ignore what happened okay?” he got up and was about to leave.
what was he talking about?
you grabbed his wrist. “yuji.”
he looked at you, guilt and nervousness swirling in his eyes. you couldn’t look away from him.
“i love you too.” the words slipped from your lips before you could realize what you were actually saying.
“i do… sorry for not realizing it sooner.” you held your breath. not knowing why. hearing yuji say he would move on really was the final push you needed.
yuji pulled you against his chest. “i’m glad.” he smiled, right before pulling you into a kiss.
you smiled and kissed him back.
