Second Age Week

For @secondageweek Day 7, here are my headcanons for the circumstances around the re-embodiment of a bunch of elves who died in previous ages!

SA 200: Aranwë and Hithaer (OC; Aranwë’s wife and Círdan’s sister; she died in a skirmish with orcs shortly before the Third Kinslaying). They move to Tol Eressëa to be with Voronwë and Ilverion (Littleheart), and will occasionally visit Andúnië in Númenor. Word gets back to Círdan that his sister is reborn, and through Númenor they are able to have some limited communication.

SA 480: Elemmakil and his father Alarion (OC; Elemmakil died in the Third Kinslaying and Alarion in the Fall of Gondolin). They move to Tol Eressëa, where Netyanil (OC; Alarion’s wife; died on the Helcaraxë and reborn in the First Age) and Voronwë (Elemmakil’s queerplatonic partner) live.

660: Egalmoth and Duilin. They settle in Tirion, and reunite with Galdor (who sailed at the end of the First Age).

920: Rôg and Enerdhil (I headcanon they are queerplatonic partners). They choose to live in Aulë’s halls and reunite with Mahtan, their friend from ages past. They also reach out to the other former Lords of Gondolin and establish a tradition of getting together to party at least once a decade.

         Minasdil was the child of Eärendur, and the sixteenth leader of Andúnië. Their cousin Indilquettë should have inherited leadership after her mother’s retirement, but the title passed to Minasdil instead when she became Arî-Inzilbêth, queen to the wicked Ar-Gimilzôr.          Though Inzilbêth convinced her husband not to banish the Faithful to Middle-earth, Gimilzôr still distrusted them and commanded that Minasdil move their people east to the haven of Rómenna under his surveillance. Minasdil would have protested this order had Inzilbêth not confided in them that her visions of the future foretold that this migration would save the Faithful in the end.

This piece isn't new but I believe I never posted it publicly (that wasn't under lock, that is), because it was written in connection with a WIP that is on hiatus. It does stand on its own, though.

So I thought that maybe it could make a contribution for @secondageweek? (Sorry for not managing to write anything entirely new.)

Setting: Tol Eressea and Alqualonde. No specific warnings, although this is set during the time when Pharazon invades.

From Ost-in-Edhil, the city of the Elves, the highroad ran to the west gate of Khazad-dûm, for a friendship arose between Dwarves and Elves, such as has never elsewhere been, to the enrichment of both those peoples.

          It was in this time that the Men of the West arrived, naming the land Harad and staking claim over its coasts. Initially the strange, tall Men with elven voices shared their knowledge with the Haradrim, the two cultures exchanging goods and information, and even helping the mariner-king Tar-Aldarion when he encountered troubles in his voyages. The kings of the seaside nation Rûvashû allowed these Númenóreans to establish the haven of Umbar within their borders, and for some years there was peace between the Men of the South and those of the West.           Yet as the centuries passed, the Númenórean mariners grew hard-hearted and cruel. The fearsome Tar-Círyatan made forays from Umbar into Rûvashû and its surrounding territories, conquering those lands and demanding goods, wealth, and slaves. Word spread quickly to the inland kingdoms of the Westerlings’ cruelty, and many turned to the old legends of Sar-Myrin’s power and dominance, and above all his hatred of the West and its inhabitants.           When Sar-Myrin [Sauron] at last returned, he carried with him many Rings of Power, which he granted to the chiefest of his mortal servants: Vekmû, the vizier of Rûvashû, and Sarnūsh, the queen of Yettafaz. With these Rings they became fierce and powerful magicians known as Nazgûl, instilling terror upon their subjects and bending them to Sar-Myrin’s will. Sarnūsh earned the title of High Sorcerer as she learned the dark art of necromancy from her Master, binding wraiths to her service and raising the dead to fight and die again in her endless wars, while Vekmû used his newfound power to rally all the might of a thousand leagues about Rûvashû to free them from Númenórean control, pushing their enemies back to their haven of Umbar, his plunderings so violent his own soldiers named him the Forsaken Reaver.           […] But the weakening of the Nazgûl’s power also allowed for the Númenóreans to return in force, expanding Umbar and founding the inland kingdom of Abrakhân. Before long, the arrogant king Ar-Pharazôn arrived in all his golden glory to demand the surrender of Sar-Myrin himself, and to the astonishment of all Rûvashû he humbled himself and submitted to Pharazôn’s shackles, sailing away with him back to Númenor.           In Sar-Myrin’s absence the Nazgûl only increased their cruelty, and it seemed that they and the Númenórean settlers began to work together to torment the people of the South. The brother-kings of Abrakhân, Herumor and Fuinur, built great temples to Sar-Myrin, enslaving the Haradrim and sacrificing any who protested their rule on their fiery altars…

But because of the power of Gil-galad these renegades, lords both mighty and evil, for the most part took up their abodes in the southlands far away; yet two there were, Herumor and Fuinur, who rose to power among the Haradrim, a great and cruel people that dwelt in the wide lands south of Mordor beyond the mouths of Anduin.
