In Your Walls

The vocals are really good. I think what the show lacks in costuming it kinda makes up for in vocals. Very mixed feelings on the choreo though, some parts are really good, some parts... noooot so much

Electra actually entered the stage like right from behind me it was super cool I got to say hi and see the costume up close lol

The second white cat is Pouncival and it seems Jellicle Songs is sung to him. From what I'm gathering the two white cats have different journeys, you have Pouncival getting absorbed into the jellicles and learning to be one of them and you have Victoria with her usual coming of age storyline

Tumblebrutus does a really fucking sick jump through a hoop and I need that to be known

Tugger is the one to say the "There's a man over there with a look of surprise, as much as to say 'well now how about that?'" And Munk does the rest

The white cat solo was... yeah it was something. Victoria and Pounce dance together. With no ballet whatsoever. And they do the lifting thing that's usually done later with Plato/Admetus and Victoria but well her love interest is Pounce now

Misto and George seem to be really close in this version, they were together for the vast majority of the Gumbie Cat and then moved to a corner of the stage where they stayed still kinda close but not together. Basically two beams and they stick to a beam each

Speaking of Jenny, she seems very aged down and Munk flirts with her (?). It was kinda weird tbh. Also her costume was terrible, I feel kinda mean saying it but oh dear Everlasting that was atrocious

There is no tap solo. I was sad

Tugger very much has Tugger energy but not the. Idk. Sex appeal? The Tugger spark? I'm not sure what is missing, maybe the design or the vocals or something, but it's not quite there

He flirts with Bomba on stage a lot more. Still throws her around though

Misto is part of his fan ensemble btw. Thought that was important. Alonzo is also the one calling him a bore

Munkustrap was sitting in the background playing with confetti his entire number and I actually loved that (Tugger goes up to mess with him near the end and he looks absolutely pissed off about it lmfao)

Then we get to Grizz and Jenny was actually comforting Victoria in a corner for most of it, but then Victoria tries to reach out for her in the end so maybe it wasn't comforting? Not sure

Grizabella doesn't look or sound nearly raggedy, old and dying as she should imo. This gets more noticeable in Memory but we're not there yet

Demeter and Bomba are very close and always stay together whenever Macavity attacks or Grizabella appears

The change from Grizabella's number to Bustopher Jones is not good. Very subjective but it just wasn't at all in my personal opinion

Bustopher also seems kinda aged down, he's more playful

He gets a whole bit basically rejecting Jenny which was handled not very well but maybe that's just me (basically just pushes her off his back and laughs it off after the others encourage her to try giving him a hug)

Also he's friends with Tugger who's in the number and gives him a hip bump

Mungojerry and Rumpleteazer's shade of yellow is awful and then they added sparkly vests and trousers in the same colour and it made it worse

Also they don't do much in their number until the very end and it's still not that big (but the music is fun, I haven't heard the 1981 version in a while but I'm pretty sure it's just like it but livelier, and I really loved it)

Okay this part is weird because now it's Old Deuteronomy right. And the one to feel Old Deut's presence is actually Cassandra she actually has a pretty proeminent role in this production and does literally all the ballet

Actually she dances most of this number and is the only one besides Tugger, Munk and Deut herself who isn't lying down. Which actually makes me feel like in this prod the three of them are siblings but that's a headcannon lol. They do have more sweet moments throughout the show and I kinda loved that

Cass still gets a lot with Alonzo just as a side note. But she does most dancing numbers with Munk. But in the final scene Munk is with Demeter and Cass is with George???

Anyways back in track, we get another Macavity scare and this time Bomba and Demeter start singing a weird version of Macavity but ginish on the the first verse

Then we get the Jellicle Ball (Tumble makes another crazy jump and I just love it so much. Keep doing that please. He does do it one more time later lol)

What would be normally Bomba's part I think (do not trust my faulty memory) became a dance where both the twin duos participate which I kinda liked but also Bomba's dance nooo

Also Pouncival leads his own dance with a few others then Tugger, Admetus/Plato (I forgot which name this production was using sorry) and Alonzo interrupt him and try to bully him off the stage and Victoria stands up for him and then they have a moment and then they start kissing and got to the back and just sit together

Then we get Memory part 1 and as I was saying Grizabella just doesn't move like she's old in that lart where she dances before singing. And she doesn't sound old either. Don't get me wrong, she sounded incredible but it was lacking only in the fact that it sounded too youthful. Just my opinion

Moments of Happiness was pretty similar but Jemima doesn't need psychic magic to understand the message and sing her part

Gus looks really jarring compared to everyone else, it's so weird

When he mentions kittens think they're smart just to jump through a hoop Tumblebrutus gets super offended because it's all he does lmao

Bomba is laying on Tugger's lap and at a point he even plays around with her ears and I thought that was kinda cute. They are much closer in this production

Then there's Growltiger's Last Stand. I loved it, I'd never seen it live before and it was great

Tugger and Munk were some of the first pirates on scene and Tugger kept poking Munk with his prop sword before Gus appeared as Growltiger

Griddlebone had no fluff and it was lowkey disturbing, it was so weird. She looked more naked than Demeter

In this production the pirates throw her in the water and then hesitate slightly before saying they're sure she was not drowned lmao

Also, to be honest the cats in their pirate costumes looked better than in the entire rest of the show, I loved them. Makes me kinda wish someone has the idea to make a pirate cats nonreplica

Skimbleshanks is now and his costume is probably my favourite, it was just really fun

I miss the cat made train, they have a full prop here aand it just kinda killed some of the whimsical vibe for me. Which actually kinda brings me to the problem of the stage because it's just too empty. Bringing out the props for the train would probably feel weird

They also made the decision to interrupt the music once where Skimble says "All aboard!" And get him to blow a whistle halfway through the song. But it wasn't too bad either instance, and the "all aboard" was actually pretty cute

Macavity appears! He literally looks like the devil I hate his design so much. His ears are like super long and pointy and he has these really fucked up very think hair in the pack of his awful orange mesh shirt that I say is awful because I just personally hate that shade of orange

Bomba and Demeter were all but actually having sex on stage while singing Macavity and I love that for them

The way they included Macavity in this number was actually really interesting and I think it was done pretty well. Basically you have Bomba singing on a spotlight and Macavity dancing around sometimes with Demeter and because they're in the dark they look basically like shadows and I think that was a sick effect. It's almost like he's haunting the song but not actually quite there

Some mixed feelings on his dance part with Demeter but I do think these are meant to look more like memories

George is part of the otherwise all female choir in Macavity and I think that's worth noting. Slay king

Macavity does not pretend to be be Old Deut. He just comes back and then he fights Munk

The Macavity fight is kinda bland to be honest. Munk is also the only one that gights and everyone just makes a joint effort to hold Macavity back when he injures Munk. A cute detail I spotted is that Tugger is one of the first to go grab Macavity and hold him back from harming Munk any further

This one might be a hot take but breakdancing Misto was actually good. And I say this as a huge fan of the original, and the original is still my favourite version and my favourite part of the musical, but that was actually cool as fuck. He spun on his head for an insane amount of time. The whole choreo was great. I loved it. It's different but not bad.

I am afraid to say they basically erased as much Tuggoffelees as they could without actually changing who sung the song. They do look like really good friends though, and I'll take that as enough. I got Bomba and Demeter. And Tugger and Bomba look really cute whenever they're together in this production. And maybe it's just me

Deut appeared through the fog then through a hoop. No impressive jump like Tumble though smh

Jemima sings and then Grizz shows up and then we have Memory part 2. It was great as always I don't think you can make this one bad, but then the one to touch Grizabella is Jemima. Victoria and Pouncival basically vanish from the narrative after they kiss actually. She even hugs Grizzabella and I just didn't really like that

Grizzabella's ascension to the Heavyside Layer was kinda boring she just went up the stairs backstage and appeared near the moon then. Walks off. Just like that.

The end was everyone lining up front (except for Grizz) with Old Deut in the center and she sings and the the musical is over
