Terraria-based fanart. I did a woopsie a couple of weeks back. In the endgame, killing this little shiny lacewing summons a boss fight that pushes your shit in if youâre not prepared for it (which I wasnât; I didnât even see it flying around). Iâd just made the final weapon, was awestruck and spamming the attack⌠and killed the lacewing. I immediately died, I sigh-laughed in bewilderment, then figured Iâd draw the scenario to try and make sense of it. It all happened so quick.
So yeah hereâs my failure immortalised forever. Also gave me an excuse to draw a nighttime scene, since I sometimes struggle with balancing colour values at night. I needed some good practice.

Everyone looks so accurate I love itâŚâŚ.
fun lore connections + mechanic and skeleton merchant being friends
How Old Man and Aberrant's their first encounter looked like?
Im curious.. Do you have anything about the Tax Collector in your writings?
I actually do not. Most of my worldbuilding was done pre-1.3, and the only stuff I appended in related to the major endgame events. Therefore, you get to witness my process for making crap up off the top of my head regarding this sort of thing (with bonus illustrations):According to my textdump (yes I will continue to link it from time to time for new people), the demons of the Underworld are the souls of the most depraved of the humans from the worldâs original civilization, the ones that drove the world into the eldritch ruin it currently is. Mutated beyond recognition by the dark magic surrounding the great soul vaults they created.
However, when you meet the Tax Collector for the first time, itâs in the form of a âtortured soulâ implying heâs not actually one of those demons⌠but was thrown down there as a punishment and is, perhaps, in the process of transforming into one. Since you can still use purification powder on him to turn him back into human, heâs not a soul from the original civilization manifesting as a demon, but a regular human whoâs nevertheless âwickedâ enough to be converted by the Underworldâs influence. The other souls saw something kindred in him, or something along those lines.
While the guy being recruited from the Underworld is obviously just a tongue-in-cheek reference to peopleâs low regard for characters bearing his tropes, heâs just generally not a great dude, holding money in higher regard than other people. Where he came from is about as much a mystery as where any of the other NPCs came from, just more settlers stranded by various happenstances, but in his case, he probably pissed off whoever he was originally living with, so they trapped him and dropped him off in the Underworld as punishment for being a jerk.
Wonât stop another adventurer from picking him back up. Perhaps suffering for a bit in the Underworld made him slightly more tolerable. Whoâs to know how insufferable he was before he got thrown down there if he acts the way he does now

after reading that chapter I'm just imagining the Guide just... sitting there, casually reading his book, and then all of a sudden bURSTS INTO FLAMES ON THE SPOT
Hate to bother ya, but I'm super curious. What Aberrant usually do when the Player is not around? Just sitting in his house? Also, has he ever hit another Face Monster with his lantern? No need to answer it. And have a nice day! ^-^
He reads.
A lot.
It really doesnât matter where he is, and heâll either sit in his room to read, or go outside to get out of the way of those who generally detest him. He tries to spend more time outside than inside.
Since the dungeons are the source of most of the books found in any town, and the dungeons go way back and were used as bunkers by stranded space/interdimensional travelers, the available books can range from magic tomes to historical accounts to technical manuals to fictional novels.
Aberrant prefers technical books to outright fiction, as he (ironically) doesnât follow character-driven narratives well.Â
Maybe, once he runs out of textbooks and manuals, heâll read fiction out of boredom and find he likes it. But seeing as Terrariaâs wealth of objectively written work spans multiple times and dimensions, what constitutes their reality is often just as, if not more fascinating than fiction is to us.Â
As for the last questionâŚ
No.
But he would.
