Charlotte Burns, a 13 year old British girl, is officially the world’s youngest Master Scuba Diver. Charlotte began her scuba adventures at age 10 after witnessing her older brother get an award for his diving. Within two years, Charlotte managed to complete all necessary courses and training to become a Master Scuba Diver by the age of 12. Furthermore, Charlotte is about to become the first child to dive between the two tectonic plates that divide North America and Europe. In order to attempt this stunning adventure, permission from the Icelandic government was required. Charlotte will be diving deep into the Silfra crevice, the only place in the world where it is possible to dive in between two continents. Silfra is considered one of the world’s best diving spots owed to the impressive clarity of its waters.

They come in all different shapes, sizes and colors. They are a beautiful world feature. They have an earthly purpose. They are Coral Reefs! Coral reefs are a society of actual living organisms and are made up of different plants, fish and other water breathing creatures. They can include, but not limited to: sea turtles, fungi, anemones, jelly fish, shrimp, sea worms, crabs, clams, oysters, sea slugs, sponges   and plenty other species of ocean life.  An ideal surrounding for best growth would be warm, shallow, sunny, clear and active waters. Coral reefs are made up of tiny animals called  “polyps” which have an outer skeleton made of calcium like that of a snail’s shell.  Each polyp is connected by living tissue that forms a community. Only the top layer of coral reefs contain live polyps as new layers of coral reef appear, the polyps left down under leave.  The world’s largest coral reef is The Great Barrier Reef located in Australia. Over 2,900 individual reefs & 900 islands stretching over 3,000 kilometers off the northeast coast of Australia. Please Protect & Preserve Our Coral Reefs!

A scuba diver near the Blairgowrie Pier in Melbourne, Australia came across a stunning feature by no other than hundreds of spider crabs. The herd of spider crabs created a huge pyramid as they carefully discarded their shells before their annual migrations. Spider crabs belongs to a family of long, skinny-legged crabs, consisting of over 700 species. Often considerably small and sluggish, they tend to camouflage really well algae, seaweed and corals. The diver behind the mask is PT Hirschfield, 44, a female blogger who actively dives three times a week and is currently battling a terminal form of endometrial cancer. She proudly states, “When it comes to reclaiming my health, I choose scuba diving over chemotherapy and radiation.” Ms. Hirschfield shot an incredibly vivid & detailed video of this crabby stunt in which she says to be among the largest spider crab pyramids ever recorded. Ways Diving Is Like Sex! 

Sea Anemones are beautifully vibrant ocean creatures whose name it got from its terrestrial counterpart. Sea Anemones, a close relative of coral and jellyfish, spend the majority of their time attached to rocks at the bottom of the sea or to coral reefs. As carnivores, they sit and wait for fish to get close enough to where they can wrap and consume the fish using their venom-filled tentacles. Their diameter size range anywhere from 0.5 inches to 6 ft but are generally relatively compared to the size of tea cup. There are more than 1,000 different species of sea anemones found in various sea depths and running the full spectrum of colors. Though they are found basically anywhere in the ocean you will find larger more diverse herds in coastal caribbean waters. 

Scuba Word #1

In September 2014, a 21 year old commercial & recreational diver, Daniel Roark, found a wedding band while scuba diving at Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. Daniel made it his mission to find the rightful owners of the ring via social media. After creating a very popular Facebook post that included a picture of the ring and the trendy hashtag #thelostweddingband, the post was shared more than 200k times and Daniel received more than 50 messages from false owners trying to attain he ring. Two months after the post went live, a cousin of Jessica Garza, the newlywed wife who's husband had lost the ring, contacted Daniel who then provided photos and a receipt to prove the wedding band did in fact belong to her cousin's husband. Martin Castillo, Jessica's husband, stated the ring had slipped off his finger while scuba diving at Barracuda Point. Both Jessica and Martin are beyond grateful for this miracle find. As for Daniel, he is currently planning a trip to Mexico in the hopes of returning the ring.
