It's a massive act of trust; they're shutting off all of their connections to the outside world and curling up inside of a pred. They can no longer feel the vibrations from the Earth, the breeze from the wind, or thumping of distant footsteps. Instead, they're just surrounded by the body of their pred - the one they trust most in this world, considering they allowed the pred to devour them whole.
