I don’t want to end up simply having visited this world.
Mary Oliver, from “When Death Comes”, New and Selected Poems: Volume One (via weltenwellen)
I’m at a wealthy middle-aged christmas party with my best friend a woman came up to me and said “you have to try the gouda” and I said “is it firm?” and she said “yes I wouldn’t have anything less” and we both threw our heads back and laughed and I’m still not sure why
wheres that pic from parks and rec. you all know the one

HAPPY NANOWRIMO!⠀ ⠀ The writing season is finally upon us, though my main goal is to get into the habit of writing every single day, I'm hoping to accomplish the 50K word count as well and maybe finish my first draft... 🤞🏼⠀ ⠀ Are any of you partaking in NaNo this year? If so, are you sticking to the 50K or creating your own goal? What's your story about? Are you a NaNo Rebel or starting from scratch? Tell me all!⠀ ⠀ 📷: @bexceptiontotherule (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4VgeOPHMgw/?igshid=1o58xodd8ysow

*re-reads my own story*: Damn this is some good shit
*gets to the part where I stopped writing*: WTF WHERE'S THE REST OF IT HOW DO I GET MORE
Brain: You're the author, if you want more you have to write it
Me: *flips tables*

advice for (cis male) writers
ernest hemingway was not a good writer. i’m sorry to have to be the one to break this to you
no, your novella does not need that graphic rape scene
lolita was not a love story. get that notion out of your head this instant
female characters do not always need to have “curves in all the right places”
misogyny is not edgy. it has never been edgy. it will never be edgy
your male lead’s dick cannot cure everything the love interest suffers from holy christ
why are you guys so obsessed with alcohol, cigarettes, and black coffee
jack kerouac was not a good writer either
feel free to add on
10. stop talking about your black lady character’s “coffee” skin. or her “mocha” skin. or your latina’s “caramel” hue. it’s not original, it’s annoying.
11. if i hear the phrase “almond eyes” one more time, i will flip my shit.
12. stop killing your gay characters as soon as you introduce them holy shit
13. what is it with your male characters and their “cold, hard” looks like honestly
14. no, you’re not an expert on depression because you read a sad poem that one time
15. that’s not how delusions work holy shit
16. you don’t actually have to tragically kill off your female lead just so that the male lead can learn a lesson about women in the process. shocking
17. There’s no “right” amount of femininity; women range from “spewing pink glitter from every orifice” to “wouldn’t touch a dress with a 10 foot pole even on her wedding day” and every inch of it is 1000% ok. 18. There’s no such thing as “not like other girls.” All girls are like other girls at the same time as no girl is like other girls. I hate to blow your mind but women are actually completely individual people. 19. Sadness and emotional repression probably doesn’t manifest as anger and hatred as often as you think it does. 20. Misanthropy is not an attractive or particularly interesting character trait. 21. Not all your female characters need a “tragic past” involving abuse to be interesting. In fact maybe none of them do. Just a thought. Consider it. 22. Your character’s disillusionment with society ain’t that cute unless they actually do something productive with it. And by productive, I don’t mean blowing something up to “make a statement.” 23. Gay men are not all either flamboyantly out and interested in shopping and gossip or violent bodybuilders in the closet I mean HOLY SHIT REALLY?? 24. Your male character being embarrassed about knowing how to braid hair or dance well or something else “girly” is not endearing, it’s fucking annoying.
this addition is perfect

I recently read that an estimated 2,000 tonnes of plastic waste – equivalent to 83m bottles – is generally accumulated by Halloween clothing sold in the UK alone. I knew holiday consumerism was bad for the planet, but seeing an actual number kinda freaked me out. I mean that's just England, can you imagine what America generates? So rather than adding to the land mines, this year we decided to stick with old school decorations like gothic novels, scarfs, and nature. One day we will sew/create some real ones but, until then, I think this cinnamon stick we bought from Trader Joe’s last year works just fine 🧙🏼♀️⠀ ⠀ ⠀ https://www.instagram.com/p/B4NSVSBjC_0/?igshid=1vrxo402qh5ot

It’s hell writing and it’s hell not writing. The only tolerable state is having just written.
Robert Hass (via writingdotcoffee)
what she says: I’m going to write today
what she means: I’m going to scream incoherently at lines of text for two hours, write maybe sixty words, and then delete them all in a fit of rage
A while back, you may remember me posting an antique mirror selfie. Well, the second photo in this carousel is the one that inspired them all. When I was a kid I was obsessed with the movie Anastasia. It was one of my five childhood films that was on constant repeat and it got to the point where my mom even sewed me her yellow ball gown so I could play dress up with it (see stories). Then, around the time of middle school, I was watching a movie and through that movie I discovered that my beloved film was historically in accurate which birthed my (probably unhealthy) obsession with the Romanov family and their history. Within a couple years time I owned every documentary, every diary, and every biography ever written about them of that time. I spent my free time studying everything I could about creating my dream of one day being a part of the archaeological dig to find the two missing bodies of Anastasia and Alexis. Sadly, the bodies were found them before I could even finish my first year of college putting a real damper in my 10 year plan. Now the second photo in this carousel is of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia taken in 1913, 5 years before her device. It’s probably one of the first mirror selfie’s, I don’t know, But I do know that I have loved this photo for a very very long time. Anyway, today I am fulfilling another Romanov inspired dream (a more attainable one) of going to see the Anastasia musical. Yes, it’s historically inaccurate but, gosh darn it, I’m excited about it!! I will also probably cry many tears of joy when the overture starts. #anastasia #anastasiathemusical https://www.instagram.com/p/B4FrMTADt2A/?igshid=10adttjdf37zr
So here’s the tea: It’s been a hot second since I actually took the time to post. The obvious reasons to most might be mental health-related or that I have nothing to post but that’s not it at all. My self-worth has never been defined by likes/followers (unless you count when I did social media marketing for a company and my livelihood depended on it) and I’ve never been one to compare myself to others. This platform has always been just a fun app to me where you get to meet from all around the world and showcases your art— art I’ve been creating a lot of lately. These past few months have been some of the most creative months I’ve experienced in a while. I’ve taken and edited some photos that I am really proud of and have been really excited to share. Also, I’ve dived into another sort of art/self-expression that I hope to one day have the courage to post about on here. Honestly, it’s more of the captions and life itself. ⠀ ⠀ Over spring I reached a low point with my illness and in June I had to make the conscious decision to take a step back from everyone and everything (except my family) so I could give all my energy to my survival. Thankfully, because of this rock bottom, I found an incredible doctor and started a new protocol that I feel might be the one. The only downside with it is that it takes up a lot of my energy so I just haven’t had the brain captivity to write anything other than my book. Which has grown so much might I add! Because of this, by the time I sit down to write a caption, I have nothing left say. ⠀ ⠀ Thankfully, this protocol is working and I feel my creativity expanding. So who knows, maybe I’ll be posting a lot more again soon. Not that it matters, but it’s always good to have something fun to look forward too. I call this: A Broody Eastern European Model Discovers There is a Sauerkraut Shortage (title pending).⠀ ⠀ What really happened: I was taking photos so you would forget how unreasonable I was being and you were over it. But the lighting was perfect and, you know what they say, art is nothing without pain... So, it was worth it, right? 😉⠀ ⠀ P.S. Happy Birthday. This shade of green and those different pink tones are my absolute favorite colors. And with that white thrown it... honestly, it’s my future home pallet.⠀ ⠀ ⠀ (at The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2kTabBnjxZ/?igshid=1cfery56p8zq3
