First Day
Good luck Ms. Toriel, your gonna need it
The Night Circus turns 15 this year, somehow, and the US paperback from Vintage Books is getting a gorgeous new look for the occasion. Cover design by Madeline Partner with art by the incomparable Alex Eckman-Lawn who also did the art for the US paperback of The Starless Sea
I might be of a changed opinion.
For most of my time playing deltarune (or at least since more stuff came out about the roaring knight in chapter 3) I have been a pretty consistent believer that Dess is the knight. However, I don't remember who posted it but I saw someone theorizing that the knight is actually Asriel and he's opening dark worlds drying to find Dess after her disappearance, and that got me thinking. I would say then that I was a 50/50 believer that it's either Dess or Asriel, Dess because it makes sense with her story and the Knight's design, and Asriel because of that line of reasoning.
However, I just finished my first replay of Undertale in a while, True Pacifist route, and noticed that Asriel's Hyper Goner attack is INCREDIBLY similar to the last part of the Knight's final attack in their ch3 secret boss battle (do I have to spoilers that?). Like, I had no idea (I haven't played Undertale in a while) and now that leads me to believe even more that the Knight could be Asriel instead.
(I wish I had taken a screenshot of it because I can't find any good ones on the Internet but use your imagination for comparison. Or a better search inquiry.)
It also makes a lot more sense now why Kris is working with the knight and why they are okay with it. Only question is why Noelle is not, if they're all so connected. (Maybe Noelle is and that's part of the Weird Route idk I haven't done much with the Weird Route).
I think it would be cool if the knight was Dess because we would then for sure get to know more about her, and I can't just change my mind at the drop of a dime, but I think this is another solid theory so whoever it was out there that made a post about the Knight being Asriel (there's probably a lot out there this is by far not a new theory), thank you for expanding my deltarune theories.
just watched the new ATLA movie after scrounging for a free trial to paramount+ and WHAT A MOVIE!
Visuals: ✨STUNNING✨ all of the backgrounds are so DETAILED and PRETTY and the colors are MAGICAL. Not to mention that all of the characters are GORGEOUS. A visual masterpiece, if I do say so myself.
Music and Soundtrack: Practically as incredible as the visuals, and while both are incredible, they enhance each other so well. I watched this with my sister and we were commenting on how it feels like the Legend of Zelda games (specifically botw and totk) and overall it is such a piece of art.
The story: I’ve heard quite a few complaints about it in my passing through the internet, but I thought it was really fitting of a world healing from the effects of ATLA, and realistic in the way that some people push forward to a better future, and some get stuck in the past. Sure, it’s not as long as a 3 season show, but it wasn’t supposed to be. To refrain from any spoilers, this is gonna be very vague and non-specific, but I thought the story had a good progression and also provides room for growth afterwords (something I was a little worried about because for a moment it felt like the events of the movie would end and nothing would change). It’s a little unclear to me how certain elements of the story come to happen, but overall, I’m happy with it.
A small gripe and my thoughts resolving it (this might be considered the tiniest bit spoiler but not enough for me to hide it): there wasn’t a whole lot of moments where the team is just being the team together. We see a lot of how connected they are and their history when they are fighting together or solving problems, but there’s very little of the strategizing moments, where we see how they all think and build off of each other that shows a lot of their personality. However, upon thinking about it, I realize that this type of moment could have been put in the film, but I don’t know if it would be better for it. It is pretty fast-paced, and with the way things progressed, taking one or multiple moments like that to slow down and talk through everything would have ruined the momentum, and therefore I think this method of showing their closeness and teamwork through the way they work together subconsciously, like it’s second nature, always looking out for one another, is enough without needing their moments of downtime throughout the film.
overall: 9/10, 4.5 stars, I really enjoyed it. Do I think it should only be on paramount+? FUCK no. But if you’re a fan of ATLA and are able to, I would recommend watching it. I think it’s entirely worth it.

Ivanski my beloved
you know what actually pisses me off? when I finally start to feel a smidge of confidence in my writing ability and then some JERK POSTS A SINGLE LINE FROM A TERRY PRATCHETT NOVEL AND IT’S BETTER THAN ANYTHING I WILL EVER WRITE NO MATTER HOW MANY MILLENNIA I SPEND TRYING!
Terry was a professional writer from the age of 17. He worked as a journalist which meant that he had to learn to research, write and edit his own work very quickly or else he’d lose his job.
He was 23 when his first novel was published. After six years of writing professionally every single day. The Carpet People was a lovely novel, from a lovely writer, but almost all of Terry’s iconic truth bomb lines come from Discworld.
The Colour of Magic, the first ever Discworld novel was published in 1983. Terry was 35 years old. He had been writing professionally for 18 years. His career was old enough to vote, get married and drink. We now know that at 35 he was, tragically, over half way through his life. And do you know what us devoted, adoring Discworld fans say about The Colour of Magic? “Don’t start with Colour of Magic.”
It is the only reading order rule we ever give people. Because it’s not that great. Don’t get me wrong, very good book, although I’ll be honest I’ve never been able to finish it, but it’s nowhere near his later stuff. Compare it to Guards Guards, The Fifth Elephant, the utterly iconic Nightwatch and it pales in comparison because even after nearly 20 years of writing, half a lifetime of loving books and storytelling Terry was still learning.
He was a man with a wonderful natural talent, yes. But more importantly he worked and worked and worked to be a better writer. He was writing up until days before he died. He spent 49 years learning and growing as a writer, taking so much joy in storytelling that not even Alzheimer’s could steal it from him. He wouldn’t want that joy stolen from you too.
Terry was a wonderful, kind, compassionate, genius of a writer. And all of this was in spite of many many people telling him he wasn’t good enough. At the age of five his headmaster told him that he would never amount to anything. He died a knight of the realm and one of the most beloved writers ever to have lived in a country with a vast and rich literary tradition. He wouldn’t let anyone tell him that he wasn’t good enough. And he wouldn’t want you to think you aren’t good enough. He especially wouldn’t want to be the reason why you think you aren’t good enough.
You’re not Terry Pratchett.
You are you.
And Terry would love that.
I only ever had a chance to talk to Terry Pratchett once, and that was in an autograph line. I’d bought a copy of The Carpet People, which was his very first book, and he looked at it with a faint air of concern. “You realise that I wrote that when I was very young,” he said, in warning.
“Yes,” I said. “But I like seeing how authors grow.”
He brightened and reached for his pen. “That’s all right then,” he said, and signed.

*It stands before you. Its shadow cutting deep... deep within the Background. The fountain... *Your allies had Left you to seal the fountain alone, slowly it turns around to you. *Its body Twists and Distorts. Slowly from its bitter body It draws its Black Knife. The Black knife growing as long and as dark as the Night itself
*As it begins to face you. slowly turning its eye to meet yours it starts to cry, Not out of Need... But because it can do Nothing else.
*you feel your Heart skip a beat as it Looks at you, Its tears Turning into a Smile as it begins to laugh. Not Out of Want... but Because it can do nothing else *You feel your very soul Darken and turn as Black as the night itself as it looks down at you *This never ending NIGHTMARE Ends Tonight.
