      “usually i’m not one for being stingy but like — i have a ticket to see the dark universe exhibit at the natural history museum and i’ve been kind of looking forward to it ?? i can rock some heels if needed but it all depends on how long of the afternoon you’ll need me for.”

“Until four so take it or leave it. I will say the heels are hot though.”

“I’m the rat in this scenario, huh?”

“If you see yourself as a rat then yes. Personally I think you’re good looking or I wouldn’t have stopped you, would I?”

“You want to borrow me for the afternoon? I’m not sure I’m really the modelling type, is there another person around who has a similar complexion and build? They’d probably do a better job than me.”

“Nope, I need you and I don’t really have time to look for someone else. Come on, you’ll be a fine model.”

“How is it that I can’t get a call back to save my life, but I magically run into someone needing a model in the street? I am enthusiastically at your mercy.”

“Because I’m actually a gift from God of course. Now let’s go. We need to get you into hair and makeup immediately.”

“How much will you pay me? I don’t work for free, sweetheart.”

“Thirty bucks an hour. Take it or leave it babe.”

“Well, he was drunk, he didn’t have a creepy mustache, but he was all tattooed up and they were really bad tattoos, like the ones you see on prisoners. I don’t know, he just gave me a creepy vibe, I can’t explain it.” 

“Hmmm, boring.” She shrugged her shoulders.

Alessandro had previously fought wars, and yet, never had fear been more evident of his features than in that exact moment. “.. I’m sorry… - What?”

“Um yes, I don’t see anyone else as tall, dark, and handsome. Come on, it’ll be easy.”

“That makes me feel terribly sorry for your model.” Felix glanced at his phone, catching the time. “You can have me until two, but after that– I’ve gotta run.”

“Yeah, well they don’t get to be in vogue so sucks for them.” She looked him over. “We can get one shoot in. Good enough.”

“What do you need me for, like hand modeling? Foot? Neck? All things I can handle.”

“Um, clothes of course.”

“Seriously? Luckily for you then, I am free the afternoon. Tell me about the shoot.”

“Fantastic. It’s natural urban, so set downtown and in the park. Photographer’s great. We’ll get your make-up done obviously and hair as well but we’re keeping it natural looking.”

“It would be an honor. What exactly is this for, though? I have to be positive that I won’t end up in an ad for, like, genital herpes or irritable bowel syndrome.” 

“My second line. I booked a deal with Vogue and Teen Vogue so you’re not going to be like front cover on either, but no advertisements.”

“Me? Uh, yeah no, I’m no model or even pretend model. I trip over air and have terrible posture. I can’t even stand still for like five minutes. Trust me, you’ll be better off with someone who isn’t tall and grossly lankly. I mean, the tall is probably good but in this situation, me being tall, not good.”

Scout shook her head. “You don’t need to be a model or a pretend modeler. You’re just going to have pictures taken. No walking, don’t worry. I need someone tall and lanky, literally the definition of a model.”

“Oh, I’m not hypocritical enough to argue with that - I shell out six bucks for this cup of third wave boiled bean juice every day, same as everyone else.” He sipped his frothy latte, as if proving a point, then chased it with a deep drag on his cigarette. Exhaling smoke, Rory crinkled his nose at her mention of smarts. “Smarts, farts. We all read the same Buzzfeed articles, you’re not gonna impress someone just by throwing around the zeitgeist-ist words you know.”

Scout laughed before shaking her head at the other. “You are not one for hitting on girls then are you? Because faking interest is the key way to hitting on people, even if it’s coffee.”

“Yeah, he was drunk though, so I highly doubt he really knew what he was doing. Some cops stopped him though, so I’m not too worried about it, but definitely gave me the creeps that’s for sure.” 

“Yeah, well guys can be creepy. Is there anything else to make that story interesting? Like was he hot? Did he have a creepy mustache?”

“Oh shit. It’s my time to shine. But really though, I’d make a terrible model. If you throw a Snapchat filter over my face, I can rock it but if we’re going solely based off of photogenic talent…I have none of it.”

“Honestly I couldn’t care less about your face. All that matters is that the clothes look good. Besides, the photographer is amazing. He could make a rat look like a prince.”
