“the fandom has decided - ” “everyone agrees that - ” “we all know that this is the only right way to - ”
I’m excited for the Jean-Luc/Marjorie partnership. But for some reason I can’t help but feel a little sad for Kaitlyn. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think there’s drama and they seem to be on good terms, but it must almost feel a little like morning something that will never be again, even if she had already comes to terms with it. And maybe there’s even a little “homesickness” type emotion, in a weird way, even if they are no longer each other’s homes on the ice. Sorry, I’m feeling sentimental. 🥺
I think it’s natural to think about Kaitlyn given the circumstances. I hope she feels content with what she achieved, and I’m very glad H/B got to live through their Olympic dream.
I’ve said in the past that H/B might be one of the most talented teams to never win a national title or a world medal, and it’s ironic because the one other team I view in the same way are the original L/L. So now I can at least hope 3/4 will achieve big things, and that Kaitlyn is happy outside of skating.

“We’re here, kiddo,” Scott said.
“Showtime!” Tessa said, her standard response.

Coming back to our conversation from yesterday:
Fournier-Beaudry/Cizeron had the highest BV (47.53) -> finished 1st.
CPom had the 2nd highest (46.79) -> finished 8th.
Zingas/Kolesnik had the 13th highest BV (45.29) -> finished 3rd.
Gilles/Poirier had had the 16th highest BV (44.17) -> finished 2nd.
Harris/Chen had the 4th highest BV (46.04) -> finished 14th.
It's all a joke at this point.
This is like if the singles and pairs started turning their doubles and easy triples but were rewarded for how much the judges liked them instead, or if they looked really great while doing it. Oops, did a doubke twist? Don’t worry, we like you, we want you to win. Doubled out of that quad? No problem, did you see how pretty the exit edge looked?
(The funny thing is, if the GOE was being used properly in conjunction with the second option - the quality of the element - then that would actually be the way it was supposed to be, and that would be great. The element would get points for execution but would not outweigh the difficulty. There would be balance.)
But things aren’t working like they should be, and ice dance is taking the worst of it without elements that are scored like jumps and twists.
I get this is a judged sport. It is meant to look effortless, to be pretty or impressive, to be danced and not just robotically performed. And there will always be some friction, because of that judgement.
But when the technical elements that the sport itself has deemed to be the highest standard is met, and yet the other factors are the biggest, and sometimes even the only, determination in who is in medal contention and who is relegated to the back, then there is a serious problem that needs to be addressed.

There’s just been so much that’s bothered me about ice dance but part of my brain must have been thinking that at least with the inevitable retirements and a silver lining hope in the return of the pattern that things would change next season…….
I was truly not expecting that instead there would be this much bullshittery in the last comp of a terrible season and with the anointment of a team that, while not their fault, has been raised in such an artificial way that it prejudices me against them, and makes me assume that they will be further propped next season and that somehow it will be then justified by saying, but look how they attained so much last season!!! as though it isn’t just this insane circular thinking.
ice dance is so
Kaori Sakamoto reacts to her personal best free skate score as she wins her fourth World Championship title ♡
Kaori Sakamoto on Amber Glenn:
“I think the things that Amber has done for the sport is really just not about the Olympics, every competition she shows us support. She shows me support, and she encourages me, she praises me, and having someone around me in competition creating that atmosphere is really, really, something that makes me feel stronger and assured. Usually in our sport when we are rivals, we tend to not get too close before the competition, but I think Amber broke that stereotype. She’s the kind of person who thinks, ‘What can I do,’ when she sees someone in trouble or in pain, and she’s able to put that immediately into action. I speak for all of the Japanese skaters, we are all very grateful. She does it because she wants to, and I think I am sort of similar in the same type of person. I really want to help people. Even at my own expense sometimes. I think I really, really, admire Amber as a person.”
