The work of Scififilmnerd

I made a fan painting of Madonna in A2 format in anticipation of her new album Confessions II. I worked on it on and off for almost a month, taking my time and enjoying the process. I did a Sticky & Sweet Tour scene as I attended a show on that tour myself.

A selfportrait of when I was 22 years old, but also a new work in my series of "men in summer" works. That stud is checking me out, like something out of a romance novel illustration. It's fantasy, like Heartstopper: What would my perfect youth look like?

This season of Portrait Drawing art class ended with a double portrait. I did it in pencil first and then started painting over in watercolor. After working on it for two hours in class, I took a picture of the models and finished it in an additional hour at home.

We only had 40 minutes for this pose at Portrait Drawing art class, so I did it in pencil, took a picture of the model and painted it at home. I'm gonna include it in my first exhibition which will be of my very best portraits at my local church this autumn.

I did a paraphase (new interpretation) of an underwear model. I put him on a beach. It's not "Photoshop" but "Mike's Art Shop". Maybe you've noticed, but I'm working on a theme of "men by the beach" for my first exhibition at a gay café later this year.

A portrait I did of my big sister (and her two daughters) which I presented to her for her birthday. She said she liked it, as did my teacher and fellow students in Portrait Drawing art class, so that was nice.

A 40-minutes watercolor study from Portrait Drawing art class. I could have used more time for that, but the teacher thought we should make a string of 20-minute drawings instead. I decided to do those in oilchalk colors. The first one reminds me of a 30s movie star, while the teacher used the second as a good example of interesting picture composition and use of negative space.

A 60 minute watercolor study from Portrait Drawing art class where the teacher still suffers from this fixation that there has to be a hand in the motive. I think it takes time away from doing a more detailed face. Oh well. The second piece was more simple and only took me 30 minutes.

A 40 minutes watercolor study and a 60 minutes watercolor study from Portrait Drawing art class. A classmate thought the first one looked a bit like David Bowie. The model thought the second one was very rock'n'roll and that's my favorite of the two pieces too.

At Portrait Drawing art class, we had the model in this pose for 2 x 20 minutes, so I just did a pencil drawing and took a picture of the model so I could finish the portrait at home where I spent two hours painting the drawing over with watercolors and ink.

I tried something new at Portrait Drawing art class, namely starting out by doing a quick sketch in light pencil before starting on the watercolor painting. Having sketched the model first, I thought the watercolor painting process went a lot quicker.
