About Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.
American rapper, Dwayne âLil Wayneâ Carter, Jr., has an estimated net worth of $150 million in 2015. A game-changing artist and an impervious celebrity, Lil Wayne began as his career as a near-novelty â a preteen delivering hardcore hip-hop â but through years of maturation and reinventing the mixtape game, he developed into a million-selling rapper with a massive body of work, one so inventive and cunning that it makes his famous claim of being the âbest rapper aliveâ worth considering.
The lyricist reportedly wrote his first song at age 8 and signed a record deal with Cash Money a year later. Two decades later, heâs one of rapâs richests. Jail (he served 8 months in New Yorkâs Rikerâs Island on a gun charge) didnât slow him down. His album I Am Not a Human Being topped the charts shortly after its release, making Wayne the first artist since Tupac Shakur to have a No. 1 album while incarcerated. Born Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. on September 27, 1982, in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.
Early Life
Dwayne was born in New Orleans on the 27th September, 1982. His mother was 19 when she had Wayne, and his father abandoned their family when Wayne was only 2 years old.
Itâs safe to say that Lil Wayneâs childhood was very, very different to most. He wrote his very first rap song when he was only 8 years old, and accidentally shot himself with a 9mm handgun when he was only 9.
Carter was an honor student at McMain Magnet School, but he dropped out at only 14 to focus on his musical career.
Career
In 1996, Carter joined the Hot Boys along with rappers Juvenile, B.G., and Turk. He was only 15 years old, making him the youngest member of the group at the time.
3 years later, Lil Wayne went solo, and released his debut album âThe Block is Hotâ, which was a major success, reaching platinum certification. He leveraged the albumâs success to release a couple of others within the following few years, and put himself on the map.
Since then, Lil Wayne has become a sensation, working with many famous artists, including Drake, Nicki Minaj, DJ Khaled, Eminem and so on. Heâs also received a large number of awards for his work and collaborations with others; some of which are listed below.
