describing philadelphia: imagine a large us city. east coast. surrounded by rivers. ok now imagine everyone else only looks at the bad parts. the bad parts every major city in the world has. and imagine that people generalize the whole city based on these shortcomings. ok now imagine that this is a lot in part to racism and classism due to demographics of the city, whether from the past the present or made up in the minds of outsiders. then imagine that it's a beautiful city, really, and has passionate people who want to make the city a better place, people who know there are pitfalls, but that doesn't define the opportunity philadelphia could have and the beauty and community it already has. imagine one of these people say something positive about philly and/or its residents and the rest of the us/world act like they said the sky is green. imagine a city that has been stereotyped and typecast and fearmongered and defined unfairly in every kind of medium. and imagine that it is one of the few major cities in the us that has held onto a form of collective identity where it's rolled with the punches and the underdog chip in the shoulder status that was bestowed upon it. if you don't like us if you don't get us if you don't understand us if you are going to let your subconscious racism and classism cloud your judgment on our beautiful city well then fuck you too we don't care.
