I have a question.. do you know why different colours affect my mood so strongly?? Like light colours make me feel more social and cheery, black makes me feel chill, and red makes me feel confident and sexy... is there a scientific explanation for this??
In most people looking at the colour red increases their heart rate which releases adrenaline. This may explain why the colour makes you feel confident and sexy. The adrenaline gives you a rush of heightened emotions. Therefore if you’re dressing up and think you look good that feeling will increase making you feel even sexier.
How colours make you feel is influenced by your childhood and experiences. If at school people mad fun of you for wearing green you are less likely to like green as an adult and it may even cause anxiety. This is a subjective influence on your emotions. There are also universal influences in the W eastern world we associate white with purity and innocence whereas in other cultures it may be associated with death, and sadness. This is because of the world we grow up in. We see how others react to colours, and what colours are present when (like black at a funeral). There are also universal influences that still and completely understood. Like how warm colours such as red, orange and yellow are commonly associated with calmness, serenity and dignity.
Colour psychology while not completely understood is a well documented and extremely interesting branch of science. If you have any follow up questions feel free to ask
