Countries around the world now all have large constituencies of people who want to see a leader come to power who will be ruthless with the fossil fuel industry and invest massively in wind, solar, hydro and nuclear. In the shortest term sense that is going to require making China their biggest trade partner, unless America, Russia or larger European countries like Germany make enormous industrial changes right away.
With a new PM in the UK right now talking about opening new drilling for oil & gas, I can't help but imagine what it would be like if he said "we're going to buy tonnes of solar panels and encourage the industry around installing them, while repurposing northern industrial plants to support retrofitting as solar plants or nuclear plants". It's not like it's the only climate issue facing the UK right now, we also need reservoirs desperately because winters are wetter and we need passive and active cooling solutions for the heatwaves of the summer, but it has never been sunnier in Britain and all of this is industry growth that the government could be scoring points for, creating jobs with etc. I just think it would be so popular and so obviously set for success.
Like the USA shouldn't be worried about who's going to "win the AI race" and more worried that it's their last ditch attempt to attain the technological edge because they're behind on solar, nuclear and basically everything else that would be necessary for the energy buildout to make their AI worthwhile in the slightest
