He could have gone all the way to Grand Prix. But his true calling? Becoming one of Europe’s most beloved and influential sires.

Okay horse friends… let’s talk about Glamourdale.

I just watched two videos side by side—one from his early stallion testing days when he was about 3 or 4, and another of him later on being ridden by Lottie Fry. And wow. There’s a lot to unpack.

In the first video, he’s tense (who wouldn’t be in that environment?), but even then—you can see him tracking up, swinging through his back, and trying his best to stay supple. There’s a youthful looseness to him. Yes, he’s out behind at moments, but he’s trying.

Fast forward a few years… and things look different. The hind legs? Not tracking up the same. The back? Tighter. The rider? Getting left behind the motion. And it made me start asking:

🌀 Are we rushing these horses too fast? 🌀 Are we breeding for front-end flash instead of long-term rideability? 🌀 Are we putting our best riders up—or just the most marketable ones? 🌀 And is anyone talking about how much time it takes to build strength, confidence, and true self-carriage?

I’m not here to bash Glamourdale—he’s stunning and obviously insanely talented. But it’s not about him. It’s about the system. And whether the sport is pushing these horses to be “perfect” before they’re ready.

Also… did anyone else notice the saddle slipping to the right? 👀 Or that curb looking tight? I swear, every time I re-watch, I see something new.

Anyway. I’m not saying I have all the answers. But I am saying we need to talk about this stuff more—openly, honestly, and without fear of being labeled a hater just because we care about the horses first.
