Critique of Vicky’s test animation.
The test clip that has been submitted has a very clean and professional look, which gives the impression that the design aesthetic of the final stop motion animation has been resolved already. The use of both a live action model and hand drawn thinking-bubbles...
many thanks, take a nap and I'll try it with music over the weekend.

Project 3 | PART 2e CRITIQUE for someone else's work
for the Testclip of Ethan (http://ethanroberts.tumblr.com/)
From the positive side of critique, the clip (#DSDN101) shows a colourful beginning and end, that both (re)capture the viewers’ attention for the clip itself. The nearly clean white background (what suits the idea of a hand drawn stick figures) and the drawings work well together. The red-colored highlights within the clip are very useful to lead the viewer’s eye.
But of course, there are some enhancements that could be considered. The clip’s coverpages at the beginning and the end seem to have no relationship to the central clip in terms of drawing style and coloring. It might be furthermore helpful to choose identical colouring for the two pages to create a stronger framing.
As the stopmotion in the middle of the clip is only about 2s long the viewer cannot understand all the shown pictures (especially as the scene changes within these two seconds) because the viewer is not able to catch all images and their relationship. This could be easily improved by splitting the actions into more paper-drawings and by reducing the overall pace of the clip.
As the pencil thickness and impact differs within the drawings. It might be helpful, to agree on one drawing-style to follow and to re-work the pictures on Photoshop before matching them into the clip.
Project 3 | PART 2d Initial Testclip
Thanks to Louis (http://elwoodleach.tumblr.com/)Â for helping me out. Selfies are a bit difficult in this case.
This Testclip shows the central scene that will be repeated with different drawings within the thinking-bubble. The background will probably be outside with a bit of blue sky. That's a real draft.
Project 3 | PART 1b Caritas Challenge Position
For my project 3 "Caritas Stop-Motion-Clip" I want to challenge the viewer in terms of his expectations of the, so called, third world. Sometimes we just don't admit that we don't care, that we are born on the lucky side of the planet or that we feel smarter and "better" overall. That’s not only wrong but prevents us from supporting people who are born in conditions that do not offer chances to escape or develop. The main point is that we are able to change these conditions – not in general but partly – and that we ignore this ability because it’s just convenient.
I'll will show that geography does not make a difference in wheatear or not you have a lot of potential to live you life and that we have to give children and adults the chance to use this potential.
As this is very serious and probably not a topic people enjoy watching, I want to include a humours-element without making fun of my ideas. Wheatear this element will be included into the content or through the visual style is not sure at this stage of the project. But as the main chance of a pleasant appearance is to capture the viewer for the topic it might be more interesting to create a likeable visual style.
Project 3 | PART 1a GROUP WORK Handin Caritas Logo Redesign
Here we (Michael Millward, Jack Cruden, Viktoria Schmid) present our final logo for Caritas. It's not limited to a special aged target group because we combined a young and dynamic base with some more mature colores, fonts and organisation.Â
The logo represents the different people who care about Caritas and who Caritas cares about (and that they all have the same origins). On the other hand it represents the christian idea of the fire of the White Sunday and missionary.Â
The background pattern relates to New Zealand. For other branches another pattern or no pattern could be used.
Project 3 | PART 1a GROUP WORK Progress
We played a bit with some variations of the main idea we wanted to follow. Our general ideas for the logo all intended to show community, diversity, peace and religion in one unified symbol and to add a relation to new zealand that is not just an attachment like in the original brach-logo for new zealand.
The serious serif-typography for CARITAS is supported by a handwritten font that communicates the casual feeling of community and that you don't have to be rich, wealthy or at an advanced age to be able to help.

PART 3 | Window drawings
These are two series with 4 windows from my window drawings that show the cultures I worked (and in this case also played) with.
PARTÂ 2 | Process and Ideas for my symbol
some of the nearly-good ideas...
PART 5 | Storyboard with and without comments
PART 6 | Final flash movie
Music: Caught In A Realm by Jared C. Balogh. I think it supports the combination of Tradition and Youth, what developed to a main theme in this project.
This flash movie intends to fullfill all my ideas mentioned in the brief especially how the internet culture redefines itself every year and day. The music and colors meanwhile calm this topic and support my bavarian family background.

PART 1 | Reference Image
This is a Wolperdinger. It's a mythical bavarian creature that is a combination of at least three real animals. tales explain these Wolperdinger to live in the woods and and scare unaware visitors - but they are mostly a gag.
PART 1 | Design Brief - a cultural journey
For my Reveal & Shift project I’ll focus on the two main cultures that influenced me till today. I want to include the Bavarian/swabian culture in which I grew up as well as the internet and computer culture that formed me from when I was introduced to this topic by my brother (who is 14 years older than me), when I was in primary school. My traditional roots and technical interest interfere less than most people think, but of course they do in some points.
Catholic, Bavarian tradtions from a small village (especially as New Zealand doesn’t seem to have a lot of villages) build a save and comforting environment while the internet is a spreading insecure and distant media. But the crucial differences between these two are the reason, why it was (and still is) so attractive to me.
At the end, I want to show the influence of these cultures on my character (what’s best characteristics are strength, flexibility and the ability to learn things very fast) in a way that reflects how tradition and technique can work together, although they can’t totally merge into one.
