Hudson Williams is acting his ass off as Shane Hollander and in my opinion a lot of criticism about his performance is directed at clearly intentional acting choices.

He deserves just as much credit and flowers as Connor does. Shane is an incredibly difficult role to play and the amount of work he’s doing with his face and body is immaculate. His stilted line delivery feels like a very intentional portrayal of his emotional repression and social awkwardness.

I'll admit that it felt this way at first, but as soon as I learned that Shane is autistic (confirmed by Rachel Reid) it contextualized his performance completely. I have a family member who is autistic (as does Hudson, who he based those aspects of his performance on) and his portrayal of a highly functioning adult on the autistic spectrum is so accurate, it's unbelievable. The stilted speech, the utter lack of awareness for body language and inability or difficulty reading social cues, it's all there in stunning detail.

I truly don't think they understand the beautiful example they're setting. Men can be soft, they can be affectionate, there is more than one kind of love. Touch isn’t always sexual. It's all about context. They're a huge part of an emerging trend we're seeing of men openly expressing a wide range of emotions and just being more authentic. They're part of an evolution of masculinity and it's so so beautiful ❤️
