Mind controlled, brainwashed, hypnotized, whatever you call it–you’re not gonna do it to me. You wanna know why? I’m too smart for that. See, I know what makes someone get hypnotized. They relax and listen to the voice of the other person and they start to drop. But I’m observant, you know, I pay attention. I’m gonna know when you’re trying to talk differently, slowly, more relaxed, just to catch me. And it’s not going to work. And don’t think you can get me with some spiral or pendant or anything like that, it’s pretty easy to just look away. I’m not gonna get enthralled or anything.
“Not going to doing anything covert?” Oh, so you’re challenging me. Okay. Sure, if you tell me right now that you’re “going to hypnotize me”, then I kind of have the upper hand, don’t I? Fine. I’ll play by your rules and be a good sport about it.
Hold that for you? So what, you want me to watch this? Okay then. Great, another spiral, I’m totally sure that’ll get me. I already know how this works. But sure, I’ll breathe in and out slowly. Since you’re telling me to do it. And also, because I said I’d follow the rules. In and out. In and out. See, obviously that’s going to make me feel relaxed. You didn’t do anything special, my body is doing that because that’s how breathing works.
So even if you ask me to repeat after you, that’s not actually going to do anything. Words are gonna bounce right off of my brain if I’m not paying attention to them, so they’re not gonna have any effect. Here we go then. “Blank, empty, mindless.” And just keep saying that? Blank, empty, mindless, blah, blah. Blank, empty, mindless. Blank, empty, mindless. Wow, see how that hasn’t done anything? But I’ll keep saying it until you concede that this doesn’t work. What’s that? New words? Sure. I obey. Pretty straightforward. I obey. I obey.
Great. I think you pretty much lose this round, right? Because I’m too smart to be brainwashed, just like I said.
And yeah, feeling a little more relaxed might be true, but not because I’m blank, empty, and mindless. That just happens after you watch a spiral and breathe in and out–your brain’s just going on autopilot a little. And I’m not obeying your orders when I put my hands… right here… it just feels good. And your brain on autopilot likes to feel good, so that’s just… natural. I’m not brainwashed.
And if I feel… kind of floaty and open right now, it’s just nice to not think about stuff. Doesn’t mean anything, it’s just… you must be boring me or something… so my brain is just chasing what feels good. ‘Cause you couldn’t get one over on me. I’m too smart to be brainwashed.
