Lady and The Tramp 2: Cultural Honorifics!

I'm from a country that uses a lot of honorifics (we have words we call older brothers, sisters, cousins, and way more specific words for aunts and uncles than English) and I ADORE when dubs incorporate honorifics into them. For Lady and the Tramp 2 I love when Scamp is called by the "big brother" honorific, to his sisters!

He has always been called their older brother in the 30-year long comic series and by the filmmakers of the sequel, so it's nice to see dubs honoring this. Here is a list of the languages that include cultural honorifics, for Lady and The Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure!

KOREAN: Scamp is referred to as the girls' oppa, the word little sisters call big brothers. However, this is only in the official subtitles. In the audio, he is referred to by name!

TURKISH: He is called the girls' abi by Tramp, meaning big brother

INDONESIAN: He is called their kakak, which is a general term for older sibling, male or female!

CHINESE (SIMPLIFIED): He is called Gege! This is what a younger sibling would call an older brother

CHINESE (TRADITIONAL): Same as above, he is called Gege!

Additional fun fact: In Korean, Jock and Trusty are called Jock samchon and Trusty samchon, which is the more family-like word for uncle. It can imply a closer relative! At the end of the first movie, the puppies used ahjussi instead, which is less familiar. It's cute that they switched to the more familiar one!

Just gained access to the Tamil dub of Lady and the Tramp 2 Scamp's Adventure and The Little Mermaid. Insanely rare finds :0

I'll make posts about movies separately later but for now the Scamp Tamil dub wasn't that great, especially compared to how good the Hindi one is. Songs were not sung well and they didn't think out the lyrics through, and some of the voices are miscast. Scamp sounds fine and Danielle's VA is great though.

The Ariel Tamil dub is a little better! Not amazing but Part of Your World sounds quite nice.

Ok, per my last post, I re-read the article and unfortunately it mentions adding six new interface languages. I counted and six have already been added, Arabic Hebrew Croatian Malay Indonesian and Thai. So we aren’t getting the South Asian languages on the interface which makes me less hopeful for getting them as audio tracks any time soon.

I’m honestly so peeved and unhappy about this. They act like South Asian people don’t exist outside of India or something. Screw JioHotstar and whatever BS deal they have with Disney that keeps everything locked to India.

“We’re making things accessible to everyone!” Yeah sure. There are approximately 1.5 million speakers of South Asian languages in the USA and likely more in the UK, screw all of us, am I right? 🤡

Disney has announced some major changes to its streaming service by revealing that it’s rolling out support for 17 additional

What inspired me to create this blog in the first place— this major announcement. I currently have access to all these dubs except for the three South Asian languages, Hindi Tamil and Telugu. I’m very disappointed I can’t watch those yet as Hindi dubs is something I collect and focus on quite a lot. It’s the only other language I understand besides English and my native.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it’s still rolling out and we will get the remaining three languages announced soon in the USA. It doesn’t make sense for them to announce it publicly but not have it available in the majority of countries.

I’m fully aware the JioHotstar contracts and shares makes South Asian languages more complicated but a similar problem existed for the SEA and MENA languages and yet we still got those, so I have hope!

Hello! This is a blog for me to ramble about dubs, international versions and translations of media.

I have fixations on Lady and the Tramp 2 Scamp’s Adventure, Lady and the Tramp, The Little Mermaid and some other Disney animal films, so these might be mentioned very often.

To start off, I will share a list of names my favorite Disney character Scamp has around the world!

Arabic: Sahm/سهم — this translates to “arrow”

German: Strolchi — matches Tramp’s German name Strolch

Italian: Zampa in the DVD sequel, Lillo in the 1955 comics. His comic name matches Lady’s Italian name, Lilli!

European Spanish: Golfillo — matches Tramp’s name Golfo

Polish: Chaps

Hungarian: Csibész —translates to rascal

EU and BR Portuguese: Banzé — translates to “rowdy” or “commotion”

Finnish: Pepi
