Things weāve learned from TROS novel so far
1. Yes, Ben and Rey are soulmates. Rey felt that losing Ben was losing half of herself. That is explicit. Itās not just two different people with a Force bond, a la Maul and Ezra.Ā
2. Yes, antis will obsess over Benās thinking Rey kisses him out of gratitude, but she also kisses him in acknowledgement of their connection. Thinking caps on, what is their connection? A dyad. What is Star Wars based on? Joseph Campbell, who every SW writer has to read. Where did the dyad term come from? From Joseph Campbell himselfāhe was talking about marriage. Thatās what the dyad isā a Force marriage. Rey kissed Ben to acknowledge their dyad/marriage.
3.Benās last words in the story areĀ āI will always be with you.ā. Damn straight.Ā
4. And lest we sleep on it, that means Ben and Rey can talk to each other and likely will be post TROS. Ben talking Rey after he went into the Force means he can and will continue to do so as there is nothing stopping him.
5. Obviously, Ben and Rey love each other.Ā
6. Ben Solo still has confidence issues and was surprised Rey even kissed him, and thought she would just live on without him. Which was sad, but Iām glad she proved him wrong. She WILL have to live without him, but he will always chat to her, and Iām certain Ben will come back.
7. Really loved how Rae Carson has Rey thinking every single thing us Reylos have been sayingāthat its unfair that Rey finally embrace her connection with her dyadmate, just started to get to know him, after all her loneliness on Jakku, just to have him gone from the physical realm. Yeah it is unfair. Ben Solo and Rey were a story just starting. And one that needs to continue.
8. Palpatine was a cloned body. Many of us guessed that as a possibility, but why not just say so in the film? We would understand Palpatineās urgency in trying to obtain a new host, and it may be he had a preference for his own bloodline to possess.
9. No Force Ghost for Ben. Thatās not a bad thing. While I may be one of the few reylos okay with a Force ghost existence for Ben (Hey, my mom watched The Ghost and Mrs Muir repeatedly, and I watched it with her, so ghost romances are a thing Iām down with), it is definitly VERY COOL that he was not shown as a FG. It means he could come back, and being a dyad, I think the rules are a bit different for Ben and Rey. They are literally one soul spread across two people. That has consequences, and that dyad is not broken.
