Shout-out to the mentally ill musicians and artists who have trouble thinking about recovery because they’ve been told their whole lives that pain is a necessary part of making art, and creativity comes from instability. This is not true. Use your pain and experience to enrich your work, but do not wallow in it. Good art comes from healthy, stable people. Van Gogh didn’t paint during the years he spent in bed. Beethoven didn’t compose during the years he spent doing nothing but drinking. Your wellbeing is more important than anything you will produce, and I promise it’ll turn out better if you eat and sleep and ask for help and take your meds.
