Grammar 6 - GRADUATION OF ADJECTIVES
Yeah, I know that picture is not in the best quality, but I hope it will be enough to understand the basics (I have to learn that I should write bigger letters... -.-'). Anyway, as you remember (or not) we have got 3 bacis genders in polish (we have also 2 plural genders, but we should start with these basic ones). And also adjctives are infelcting by genders. So we have got 3 columns in each condition.
We have three ways of graduating adjectives.
First simple (proste) is the most popular. We had to cut the ending of positive and ad -SZY to make comperative. To make superlative we have to add NAJ- before comperative. Look:
positive: piękn-y (beautiful)
comperative: piękn-iejszy
[-iej is like a brigde - it helps to pronunce word easily]
superlative: naj-piękn-iejszy
Opisowy (descriptable) usually use to adjectives which can't be pronunced properly after simple graduation. It's easier than simple because we add "bardziej" before adjective to make comperative and "najbradziej" to make superlative. When we have problems with simple graduating we can conditionaly use decriptable graduating.
positive: inteligentny
comperative: bardziej inteligentny
superlative: najbardziej inteligentny
The last one is irregular (nieregularny) graduation, which is... yeah, irregular. But not exactly...
positive:Â dobry
comperative: lepszy
superlative: najlepszy
positive: zły
comperative: gorszy
superlative: najgorszy
Parts naj- and -szy are always regular. Just  middle is a problem, isn't it?
We have to remember about genders. Every adjective graduated above is in male gender. If we wolud like to make female and nautral gender we have to only change enging. From "y" to "a" to make female, and from "y" to "e" to make neutral.
Oh, wait! One thing is missing!
positivus = stopień równy (literally equal level)
comperativus = stopień wyższy (literally higher level)
superlativus = stopień najwyższy (literally highest level)
