Now, how can I help?
â LENA LUTHORÂ (2x04, Survivors)
Well you canât live in fear. You, more than anyone, must understand that. Time and again you risk everything to see justice done. Is it so hard to believe that I feel the same way?
â LENA LUTHORÂ (2x05, Crossfire)
Sawyer usually had lunch out, regardless of where she was working that day. Whilst most her colleagues knew that Sawyer didnât like to socialise at work she still avoided eating lunch with them just in case someone attempted to strike up a conversation with her. Standing in line at a little bistro Sawyerâs attention was mostly fixed on her phone as she replied to work emails. Her attention might have been fixed on the screen but she still noticed the person who cut in front of her. âUnless you intend on buying me my lunch and coffee I suggest you get to the back of the line.â

location: ocean view park date: january 14, 2020 time: a little after noon
Taking a brief jog through Ocean View Park was a daily routine for Rebekah Danvers - always accompanied by her pitbull, Frenchie. With it being almost sixty degree weather, Rebekah sported a light pull up running hoodie with dark capri leggings. Apple Airpods in her ear, the woman was pretty much drowned from the world as she listened to the latest episode of yet another self-help podcast. She took a stop at the nearest water fountain to take a quick break; it fell short when Frenchie pulled at her leash, forcing Rebekah to let go.Â
âFrenchie!â Running after her beloved canine, the woman continued to call out for her dog to stop.
Despite being a workaholic Sawyer was always able to make time for three other important things in her life; Casey, her adopted teenage ward, her horror novels and films, and her Australian Shepherd dog Bailey. Whilst walking Bailey through the park Sawyer was trying to get her phone out her pocket when Baileyâs dog treats fell onto the ground. Before she could bend down to pick them up a pitbull had already beaten her to it. âHello beautiful, where did you come from?â Sawyer said to the dog, bending down to pick up the dogs lead. Â

It had always been a challenge to keep Gabrielâs attention but incredibly easy to catch it. There was a fickleness about him which meant that somehow his gaze always got drawn to what he considered the most exciting or entertaining thing in a room. The only person exempt from this treatment was his son when he always considered the young boy the best focus for his attention. Currently his attention was fixed on a couple having a blazing domestic in the middle of the street. There was an undeniable look of amusement on his face as he watched the scene unfold, unable to keep himself from snickering slightly as the insults grew louder. Shifting in his seat slightly, he leaned closer to no one in particular before speaking. âYou think they get off on the attention? They gotta know that everyoneâs zoning in on them.âÂ
When working Sawyer wasnât easily distracted, one of the upsides to being a workaholic was that she could easily get in the zone almost anywhere. Even Sawyer was struggling to focus with the row going only a stoneâs throw away. Glancing up from her laptop Sawyer couldnât help but think that row was to mild a word. She was surprised they werenât at physical blows with each other the way they were yelling. The veins on the guy's neck looked like they were about to burst. âPerhaps, or maybe theyâre too angry to care. Although, it does seem rather rehearsed,â Sawyer replied, glancing up from her laptop once more.

âSorry, did you say something?â Holly was pretty sure she was about to drop to sleep in her ice-cream, so when sheâd heard a voice, she had to snap herself from her revere â- no idea if theyâd even been talking to her anyway,Â
âYour chair,â Sawyer repeated, making no attempt to hide her annoyance at having to repeat herself. âItâs on my coat,â She continued, gesturing down to the bottom corner that was pinned under the chair leg. Sawyer may not have to worry about money now, but old habits died hard. Everything she owed she took care of, which is why she wasnât going to risk yanking it out.Â

When: January 11th, 2020 Where: Luckyâs Bar & Grill What: Karaoke Night
When a night out had been suggested to him, he had been hesitant to say yes when it felt like his whole life at the moment was a mixture between the gym, his mom and hitting up some bar so he wasnât sat home alone. But heâd made a promise and if nothing else he was true to his word. Except what he had counted on was a quiet night tucked away in a corner somewhere and instead had been greeted by the full on extravaganza that was karaoke night. Two drinks in and he had yet to feel himself finding any enjoyment in it. After a particularly poor rendition of Total Eclipse of the Heart he found himself reaching for his beer again, only to find it finished. Slight shake of his head was given before he muttered to himself as he turned to catch the bartenderâs attention. âI need another drink for this.â
Sawyer was one of the lucky few who loved her job, however, that didnât mean there wasnât the odd aspect she hated - like the socialising. As an attorney Sawyer working for a couple of law firms, including a non-profit one. Somehow Sawyer had been roped into trying to get a couple of bigwigs to donate. They must have been desperate if they asked Sawyer. Standing by the bar Sawyer watched as her colleagues chatted up the potential donors. Unless asked about her role directly Sawyer kept her distance. Trying to wave down the bartender again Sawyer let out an audible sigh of annoyance. âYouâll be lucky, Iâve been stood here for ten minutes trying to get a drink,â She commented, hearing the comment made by the man stood next to her.

NAME: Sawyer OâConnell GENDER/PRONOUNS: Female, She/Her DATE OF BIRTH: January 12th, 1984 BIRTH PLACE: Where were you born? CURRENT RESIDENCE: Santa Monica Pier/Ocean Avenue OCCUPATION: Juvenile Defense Lawyer FACE CLAIM: Katie McGrath
BIOGRAPHY
trigger warnings: abandonment, alcoholism, alcohol poisoning, death, m.i.a. soldier
If asked Sawyer O'Connell would claim that she was born and raised in Ireland, and with her Irish accent no one has any reason to doubt her. In truth, Sawyer was born in Boston where she was raised for the first eight years of her life. The reason she prefers to lie is that the truth means acknowledging her father, and Sawyer does her best to forget he even exists.
Although they were never married, in all other respects Sawyerâs parents might as well have been. Her mother moved to Boston to be with him, they lived together and had two daughters together - Sawyer and her younger sister, Imogen. Sawyerâs father wasnât around a lot as he travelled for work. Over time his work trips got longer and longer until he didnât come back at all. All her mother got was a text that he wouldnât be returning. Sawyer later found that he had a second family and he abandoned Sawyer, her mother, and her sister to be with them.
Sawyerâs mother hung around Boston for a couple of years, hoping heâd come back, but as money began to run out she had no choice but to move them all back to her native home, Ireland. She had an aunt there who agreed to let them live with her. They might not have had to worry about living on the streets, but life was still a struggle. Sawyerâs great aunt took care of her and Imogen, but she was rather old and her health started to fail. The older the sisterâs got the more their roles reversed and they had to take care of her. Â
They were better off financially living in Ireland, but Sawyerâs mother still had to work three jobs to keep their heads above water. Unfortunately, to cope with all the stress and pressures, nevermind the pain of been betrayed by the love of her life, her mother turned to alcohol. She was a high-functioning alcoholic, so it never affected her work, but at home, she often ended up drinking until she passed out. This meant that as well as caring for their great aunt and their school work, it fell onto Sawyer and Imogenâs shoulders to do most the cooking, shopping, and cleaning.
Sawyer never held any ill will towards her mother. She loved her dearly, and it broke her heart to see what sheâd become. Sawyer knew her mother did the best she could, and if anyone was to blame it was her father. It was hard on both sisterâs when after one weekend of particularly heavy drinking her motherâs body could no longer take it and she died from alcohol poisoning. Sawyer was only 16, and her sister 14.
Somehow the sisters managed to keep things together, until two years after their mother died their great aunt died too. They grieved the loss of their aunt, but her death gave them the freedom to do whatever they wanted. Imogen decided to enlist and joined the army, whilst Sawyer made the tough decision to move back to America to attend university. She loved Ireland, and it was tough leaving, to Sawyer it was her homeland, but there were better opportunities in America.
Fortunately, Sawyer was used to hard work because thatâs what it took to get her degree. Never one to choose the easy option Sawyer had decided to pursue a law degree. Sheâd always enjoyed a good debate and wanted to stand up for those who, like her, was a victim of their circumstances - which is how she ended up choosing Juvenile Law. To pay for her tuition, books, and everything else that came with university Sawyer had to work two jobs. It didnât matter that everything she owned was second hand or from a charity shop, she was used to that, and it didnât matter that all she ate were various tinned foods that cost less than a dollar a tin, at least she had food.
Graduation day was one of the happiest days of her life, even if the only person left to share it with her was Imogen. Unfortunately, the hardest blow was yet to come when she lost her sister. It had been a couple of years after graduation when Sawyer got the news that Imogen had been declared M.I.A. Not knowing what happened to her sister made it even harder to deal with. Sawyer still struggles with it, the unknown element preventing her from getting closure.
Needing a fresh start Sawyer moved to Santa Monica six years ago. Most people get the wrong impression upon meeting her, thinking sheâs some kind of spoiled, bitchy, trust fund baby, and Sawyer rarely bothers to correct them. Losing her sister pushed Sawyer over the edge. To protect herself from the pain Sawyer became cold and distant. She even tries to make people hate her, acting bitchy on purpose.
Her work means everything to Sawyer, itâs what keeps her going. Money no longer being an issue Sawyer likes to enjoy the finer things in life, things she could never afford growing up. Itâs this that can give people the wrong impression, they donât realise how hard sheâs worked to get to where she is. Given her general demeanour, people can be shocked when they learn what Sawyer does for a living. The way she acts around her clients is the complete opposite to how she acts around everyone else.
People are even more shocked to discover that Sawyerâs the legal guardian of a teenager - Casey. Sawyer began fostering her three years ago and adopted her two years ago. Casey was a victim of circumstances, much like Sawyer, and was constantly running away from various foster homes. She was a friend of someone Sawyer was representing, and somehow, before Sawyer even knew it Casey was living with her. Despite all her efforts, it seems some people manage to slip past her barricades.
