Passing Zephyrs
Arm in arm on mountainside, watching the sunset vista
You were my hilt, and I your blade, we stood strong
Waging war against the world, while weary winds did whisper
I found a place, in your soul, where I belonged
Beneath the stars, we spoke of hopes, and our dreams began to echo
And blossomed, from your heart into mine
Even though fires fade to ash, and embers cease to glow
Both our winding paths were serpentine
The candle burns from one end quicker, why don’t you return my glance
But it’s alright, you’re just busy, I understand
Claiming you just missed my message, it’s all just circumstance
And how could blissful ignorance ever be planned
When we love, the warmth it rushes, gushes through the air
Until realisation of the cold snap, setting in
And so crashing down we come, betwixt your joy and my despair
My only solace, the world’s smallest violin
It took me far too long to learn that my time and love are precious
Not some come and go emotions, blown along by passing zephyrs
So if your never-ending unconditional love, comes with a preface
Then I don’t want it, nor do I want your hollow remnant effort
