happiest birthday to the man that has been my hyperfixation for over 2 years. to the character that got me into this wonderful universe of comics and helped me find my morality and sense of self through his life story along with giving me a healthy coping mechanism.
nothing could ever make me hate you Jason Todd
Everytime I hear someone badmouthing Jason I went ARGHHHHH and I'm in madness and I can explode but if I hear Jason badmouthing himself I just went.... UGHHH BDKSHSKBSJS because I can't be mad with him but... UGH. JASON.
Worse: if the case was with Jaybin. Kill myself as soon as I hear anyone badmouthing Jaybin.
same bro.
Jason Todd and his bombs during utrh (2011)
When Bruce and Dick were fighting goons and opened crates of the rogues' weapons:
2. When Jason was fighting Freeze and Black Masks goons:
3. Two dealers for Black Mask (after beating up the Joker):
4. Jason blowing up his helmet after his first face-to-face contact with Bruce (like face revealed and shit):
5. The meth lab with Bruce trying to stop it, while Jason watches and commentates:
6. Jason bombing the gun dealers right after:
7. Jason bazookering Black Mask:
8. Jason fighting 2 members of The Society (Hyena and Captain Nazi):
9. Stand in Red Hood with Black Mask:
10. Red Hood helmet 2.0:
11. After Bludhaven got chemo'd:
12. Again, right after the chemo blast:
13. Although Joker was the one to set this one off, I doubt he was the one who brought it to that building, so I'm pretty sure Jason would've used it in one case or another if he wasn't bleeding out of his neck:

“Why couldn’t he do it for me?” but it’s not fucking “Why couldn’t Batman save me from the darkness and bring me into the light?” (because brother he’s THE LIGHT he’s THE HOPE he’s the boy who SAVED HIMSELF). “Why couldn’t he do it for me?” but it’s “Why couldn’t my father love me enough to choose me? Why couldn’t he choose me over the Joker? Why couldn’t he love me as much as I love him? Why couldn’t he prove that he really loves me by actions over useless words? Why couldn’t he love me enough to fight for me? Why couldn’t he?”
One thing about the tone of this sentence. “Why couldn’t he do it for me?” means that: he really thought that Bruce would do it. But Bruce didn’t. So he had to ask himself: why couldn’t he do it for me? Because he truly believed that Bruce would. The sentence “Why couldn’t he do it for me?” shows us one thing: broken hope.
Like have you ever asked yourself that sentence just once. They are your parents, and they love you, and you know that, so why can’t they just…. Love you enough to choose you? Over their work? Over something else? Over their pride? Why can’t they love you enough to really care for you? To listen to you? To compromise for you? To set aside something for you?
striked too close to home and now I can hear the pulse in my throat
The "man-child" description (accompanied by always portraying Jason as much older than he should be) is so particularly grating because it pulls double duty of denying him his youth while also being sure to deny him any sense of maturity. Anything to make sure Jason comes across as poorly as possible.
when mitski said "I am the fire and I am the forest and I am the witness watching it" she encapsulated everything wrong with my life in one lyric
The reason that I don't enjoy the fics where Bruce apologizes and makes next to minimal changes in order to accomodate Jason and still behaves the same while Jason forgives him and has to forget his hurt and morals to be part of the so called batfamily is because it is TRUE.
Jason does not hold the amount of resentment towards his parental figures as much as he should. This dude forgave Sheila JUST AFTER HE DIED BECAUSE OF HER.
His self-esteem is so low that you'd have to jump into Tartarus to find it.
That's why I want him to put himself first, leave the family and do something just for himself.
For me, Jason symbolises a lot of people especially women that are expected to forgive the person that has hurt them the instant they ask for it and that do forgive them (not that it's a bad thing) or feel/are made to feel guilty for not forgiving (as for some reason it symbolises letting go and doing the bare minimum is always rewarded and the abusers should be forgiven just because they apologized)
Wanting revenge and holding resentment is such a taboo concept that I can't help but want something different to happen in my favourite character's story.
so yeah- Jason should put himself first if the others are never gonna do that. I love him too much to be aware that him and the bats can never be a family.
Love the use of passive vs active voice here.
Died = something that happened
Murdered = something that happened to him
Never forget that regardless of the supposed justifications, regardless of whether Jason was reckless or naive or violent or angry or anything else of that sort...
Jason Todd was murdered by someone else.

Do people realize that they can write Jason as a pathetic loser without diminishing his mental or physical prowess?
In so many fics,he gets injured or overwhelmed and Daddy Bats & other team members have to save him.
Are we forgetting that this dude literally survived the STREETS OF GOTHAM while CATATONIC like his mental faculties were lost as hell yet he persevered.
What instead could be explored is his self esteem, no one in Jason's life has ever prioritized him, he was very isolated in his teen years, had an slmost codependent relationship with Bruce, dead, training so how does that translate to him caring for himself? Does he ever put himself first? Is he secure in himself enough to say no when boundaries are crossed? Is he willing to deny love or affection if it comes at the cost of him changing himself? Does he love himself enough to leave or is he lost enough to let anyone trample over his everything if it comes at the cost of some measly sense of belonging and community
Something about Jason Todd's anger always being talked about in such a negative connotation- like why is being angry on behalf of the victims, on behalf of the injustice, on behalf of the city and the shitty things that are happening in the world such a bad thing?
Isn't that good? Doesn't that show that he is an extremely empathetic person who has deep compassion and love for each and every victim? Isn't that a show of extreme bravery and courage the fact that he has personally experienced these in injustice practices yet he continues to serve the people yet he continues to fight for them as Robin? (though I have much to say about how him becoming Robin was not a really a choice) and later on when he was betrayed by every parental figure of his (4 of them mind you)yes stuff happened (I firmly believe in Willis and Catherine were doomed by the narrative agenda and that they did not really have any control)
But still isn't that a huge fucking burden for a legit kid to carry and grow up with and he is called brash, rageful and shit when he comes BACK FROM THE DEAD after experiencing such horrors and becomes more mentally unstable than he already was.
Like yeah-the guy that grew up in poverty, was homeless, fought criminals every night during his early teens, was tortured to death after being betrayed by his MOTHER,dig himself up from his coffin, was again homeless and catatonic for a while, trained with assassins when he should have been passing high school is ANGRY??? WHAT A FREAKING SURPRISE!!.
(all this without mentioning the csa, emotional neglect, survivor's guilt+many more thing he would have had
I bring a very "Jason Todd was totally justified in every 'bad' thing he ever did and it would be more than fair for him to never really form a relationship with any of the batfamily, especially not Bruce" vibe to the function that people really don't like
someone give jason a support system that is there just to support him. no need for jason to take the role of a caretaker
can't wait for jason todd mentoring the teen titans. to see him be drawn his age for probably the 2nd time since utrh

-> guy who died as a teenager starts an investigation & protects younger heroes being targeted
-> the guy who has died a teen hero wanting to protect & help his mother if that hasnt clicked yet
-> guy who has been implied to be a victim of childhood sexual assault very clearly
-> that guy wants to protect younger heroes & investigate whats happening
-> in a dc comics run, a company which has thrived off mentorships provided by older, experienced heroes to younger ones.
-> he's in early 20s.
& somehow. he is being labelled a predator. what are you idiots on abt. if we are so bold why arent we talking abt bruce being a groomer yet? if thats the logic we are follwing
Older white man happy to keep a young Asian girl illiterate while having very muddied personal boundaries with her is “girl dad 🤩” to them, but god forbid the guy whose crime lord career began with rules against targeting children be concerned about a missing child.
Let us not forget when BRUCE HIMSELF trafficked Jason during their first meeting. And then he cornered Jason in a locked vehicle to inform him that he would be Robin (the unsaid assumption being that if Jason doesn't agree Bruce has the power to do literally anything to him). Further proven by Bruce fostering other kids who don't know his secret identity that he doesn't end up adopting.
OR! When Tim dropped out of high school to spend all his time micromanaging the emotional state of a grown man, spending completely unsupervised time in his home while Tim's parents are out of the country, all the while purposely and explicitly trying to isolate Tim from his support system of peers.
Oh or Bruce going out of his way to use Stephs desire for approval and lack of resources to control her and thusly Tim in the wake of Tim quitting to focus on his normal life. And using that control over Steph to verbally degrade her and leverage her and Tims break up to keep her from reaching out for his support.
