Sasha’s Adventure Update: Day 3

Breakfast: Yogurt mousse with a chunk of real honeycomb, pears & granola. The yogurt was like a whipped foam. Ah-mazing. With a soy flat white, of course.

The adventure begins.

My mom and I I braved the frigid cold tonight and went out to dinner at Tumi on Main Street in Hyannis. Tumi is a Peruvian restaurant with an Italian flare, and the menu was quite impressive. Being vegetarian, I chose a vegetable risotto entree, but decided to try a traditional Peruvian starter: Yuquita Frita. Similar to thickly cut french fries, Yuquita Fritas are actually lightly fried yuca wedges with a slightly spicy dipping sauce. 

Super yummy. And everything about it shouted a big “NO” in terms of starchy fried carbs. 

But totally worth it. ha! 

January 5, 2018:

As the first week of January creeps forward, we leave behind the holiday season. It always feels somewhat bittersweet. 

Yes, I am excited to see what this New Year has in store, but I also harbor a slight sense of melancholy as holiday decor is taken down and put away. The exchange of gifts is but a memory; the thank you cards are mailed; and those scrumptious holiday treats are long gone. Holiday hopes fade away and I realize it will be many months before my family gathers again.

I guess this first week after New Year’s Day just feel like a “gap” week. It always does.

January 4, 2018:

Today was all about the Bomb Cyclone. This massive storm delivered high winds, coastal flooding due to high tides, rain, snow, and a bunch of problems throughout the East Coast. In anticipation of the storm, officials closed Massachusetts. Okay, not really - but most schools and businesses were closed, and activities cancelled.  Snow Day!

Here on Cape Cod, the snow levels have not been anything to write home about, but the winds are wild. And freezing rain is, well, freezing.

Basically, my mom and I are just waiting to lose power. Happily, we have this gas stove that keeps the center of the house very toasty. 

January 3, 2018:

Forecasters are predicting a blizzard tomorrow for much of the East Coast, so to prepare for loss of power (and technology) I pulled out my parent’s old card table from the basement & opened up a new 1000 piece puzzle.
