A new version of Phinias and Ferb is being released. It is on a streaming service, and will be rated MA. Everyone wonders what this mature version of their beloved kids show will be. The first season is released, and you start watching it. It is just the same as the first season of the old show. Is this some elaborate joke? Finally at the end of the first episode, it happens. Dr. Doofenshmirtz is defeated, as he usually is. This time, however, as Perry is making his exit, you here Doofenshmirtz yell, "Fuck you Perry the Platypus." This is the only thing that has changed in the show.

Instead it was someone rattling off the plot descriptions of tv/film horror with clowns in them, occasionally interjecting whether he liked it, with very little explanation as to why. His analysis almost feels like non-sequiturs, they feel so unconnected
He brings up "The Tale Of The Ghastly Grinner" from Are You Afraid of the Dark as bad example
Okay, that's fine, I've never watched the show! What's wrong with it? Well.
"This episode is troublesome because it's not a morality tale, there isn't a lesson to be learned here. The Ghastly Grinner enters these children's lives for no reason and it just kind of says that evil just exists, that there was nothing you did to bring this upon you but here it is nonetheless and you just have to deal with it. And for me, that's a very existential concept to play with in a children's show."
Now you might be asking "hmm, that sounds very interesting and cool and not at all 'troublesome.' Why does a lack of a lesson make this story bad? What does he mean by it being very existential?"
I don't know because after his summary and one sentence opinion, he starts talking about clowns on Seinfeld. That's it. He's done.

At first, the military wanted to reinforce those areas, because obviously that’s where the ground crews observed the most damage on returning planes. Until Hungarian-born Jewish mathematician Abraham Wald pointed out that this was the damage on the planes that made it home, and the Allies should armor the areas where there are no dots at all, because those are the places where the planes won’t survive when hit. This phenomenon is called survivorship bias, a logic error where you focus on things that survived when you should really be looking at things that didn’t.
We have higher rates of mental illness now? Maybe that’s because we’ve stopped killing people for being “possessed” or “witches.” Higher rate of allergies? Anaphylaxis kills, and does so really fast if you don’t know what’s happening. Higher claims of rape? Maybe victims are less afraid of coming forward. These problems were all happening before, but now we’ve reinforced the medical and social structures needed to help these people survive. And we still have a long way to go.

why on earth are snakes seen as mysterious, cunning and insidious, they are literal dumbasses, slithering through the world trying not to die of their own dumbassery. Sometimes my pet snake fails to eat his rat because he can’t find the head and it won’t fit into him because he tries to eat it ass first, so he gives up and sulks in his cave for three days. Sometimes he tries to wrap around his heat lamp in the middle of the night, then kaboom! falls to the ground and lies there confused for half an hour. He gets offended by his water dish. One time he got scared of his plant because a leaf touched him funny as he was slithering by. When he was little and not used to handling,he tried to bite me occasionally but missed every single time. He’s scared of black rats and won’t eat food that isn’t either white or light brown. I have no idea how he would survive in the wild. He’s not evil and mischieveous, he’s literally a cannoli with a head and he’s never had a thought in his life.

Okay, you need to make sure you play this game at some point. Maybe not today or anything, because you’ll need about thirty minutes and a serious willingness to understand how it works, but - it’s so worth it. It’s basically an answer to our occasional frustration - why do assholes always come out on top? - and the beautiful thing about it is that not only does it explain how that happens, but also how we can change it.

easily one of the most obnoxious hetero romcom/drama tropes is when one of the ppl in the couple has big dreams that they’ve been struggling to achieve and one day they finally start succeeding and then the other person gets jealous and sad that they’re not the center of the universe anymore so they stage an ultimatum of “it’s either your life goals that you’ve wanted your whole life and have been struggling for years to achieve or me, who apparently only supported you when your were failing and am angry at your success because your happiness makes me angry when it’s not about me, make your choice :/” and most of the time it works
