Throughout our health care system, our awesome employees made so many generous donations to the Mayors' Feed the Hungry Program Thanksgiving Food Drive. The program has collected and distributed over 200 tons of food and over $2,000,000 in food gift cards given to the hungry in Sarasota and Manatee counties since 1987.

When Thomas Packer suffered a massive stroke, the effects were debilitating. He was unable to communicate and paralzyed on one side. Fortunately, he lives in Sarasota, Fla., where he was able to access the latest interventions available at Sarasota Memorial Hospital's Comprehensive Stroke Center. All proceeds and food donations benefit All Faiths Food Bank, whose mission is to solicit, warehouse, process and distribute food to nonprofit agency partners offering hunger relief.

Our goal is to work with them to develop a solution that breaks down one of the barriers we know prevents patients from important follow-up care.”

Earlier this week, Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc. Junior Troop 197 visited our Patient Safety Simulation Lab and HealthConnection. Melissa M. Shelton, PhD, RN, CNE, who is our Simulation Program Coordinator (back right, in white) demonstrated different simulation techniques to show the troop.
