Lets go to bed whilst it’s light outside, so I can see you. Take me to bed whilst the froth of living still butters the windows And lathers the sheets. I’ve shaken hands with the darknesses in me. I learned their names. I remember their names and their faces and I’m tired - So replace their names in my mouth with yours, Dripped into me like warm honey, Fresh-dipped in your glow like runny yolk. Then it can be amen to the prayer of wanting you More than I’m afraid of my own teeth. Teach it to the heart in me that forgets how to heal, And forgets how to beat. I’ve seen you trace my fault lines with your tongue, And with those searching eyes of yours, So name them after the goddesses you look like you’ve seen in me. Aphrodite, for the parts of me that want until they break. Artemis, for the untamed wild in me. Achelois, for the parts of me that are healing and probably always will be. Name them like Adam did - laughingly, lovingly - But find no mirror of yourself there.Let them be strangers in the cracked-glass surface of my war-torn body. Come home from your search and rescue to me whispering in your ear - “Let it be me, let it be me, let it be me.”

I want your Monday morning sleep soaked eyes dream drenched voice, lazy bones ‘five more minutes please babe.’ I want your Tuesday afternoon coffee break, glasses off, laughter on ‘just hold me for a while it’s been a hard day.’ I want your Wednesday evening fingers through hair teeth nibbling nails neck craning, eye glazing ‘this paperwork never ends’ I want your Thursday night drinks for two bones unbind muscles let loose flats, slacks, ‘just me and you’ I want your finally Friday stretch soul smile, sun sipping light from the glaciers in your eyes fingers unfurl, hand extends ‘c’mon babe, lets go wild’ I want your weekend. your movie marathon Saturday reading by the fireplace kissing in the blankets want your Sunday morning orange juice and pancakes white sheets, tender skin hair like the Fourth of July ‘let’s not get out of bed today.’ I want your ordinary and your stress, rest, release I want your bad day and that terrible night I want you drunk in my arms forgetting the place but never my name I want your lazy and your lonely and your fist full of fight I want you everyday in every way for the rest of my life.
