on some level you have to view trans healthcare with the pragmatism of suicide prevention. like the reason top/bottom surgery for trans people should be free and easily accessible is because the alternative is waiting for trans people to become so miserable they kill themselves. some people! may view that alternative as the point of the pervasive screening and filtering and segregation of transgender healthcare, even!

what if there was a pill that could stop your suicidal ideation and make you feel more comfortable in your body and let you feel happiness again but to get it you have to go to a doctor who thinks you're lying and puts you on a 2+ year wait list before you're allowed to have it and in the meantime you have to do a bunch of degrading and invasive questioning where if you express honest thoughts and opinions they might conclude you're lying about wanting to be happy or think you wanna be happy for the wrong reasons so you have to kinda perform a specific character of a miserable person to them and in the meantime you're still barely getting any support or treatment for your depression and you're being discriminated against for being depressed. you might start concluding that the medical establishment is waiting for you to kill yourself
