HELLO !! okay, i haven’t been here for long, not even a year but some time ago i’ve reached my very first milestone. everyday, on my way back home from work, i’ve been thinking about doing this post and it’s probably the first and last! it definitely won’t happen regularly. over time, i saw a lot happening on dash, some things which i could have never imagined. i’m not good with words when it comes to being consulting but at least i try my best! now you guys are warned… but most importantly i want to thank you all for this wild experience which is this community. i’ve never felt more comfortable on a blog before than i do on seongil’s. seriously, the way he has developed?! it’s all thanks to you, the most precious followers! he has come so far and wouldn’t be here without you and the inspiration you and your muses spark in me.

“sieun!”

she tries to ignore him.

“sieun?”

except ignoring baekhyun is like shaking hands with the personification of death: impossible     quite literally so, in fact. all thanks to his stamina; who else possesses the nerve to keep on hunting for a conversation when the other party clearly is busy with something else? but as things are, she doesn’t rub that in his face and only lets the pen drop down with an exasperated sigh before turning to him, gaze positively inquisitive.

“you have five seconds.”“doyouthinkthatifiworeblackpantswitharedleatherjack -”

she stares at him with a mixture of amazement and annoyance at the fact that he always has to take her so seriously. sieun understands that she isn’t the easiest person to surround yourself with and she does appreciate the younger’s efforts to keep in touch in spite of her harsh ways but that doesn’t mean she has to excuse his behavior. in spite of his age, baekhyun handles most things in a very exaggerated fashion, thus forcing him to appear younger in the eyes of other people. perhaps that’s why jiu thinks he’s so endearing.

sieun, however, doesn’t. (not always, anyhow.)

“breathe in and start over again. i didn’t get a single word,” her brows furrow when his nose crinkles in delight, apparently happy at having gotten her attention so easily. she suppresses a sigh and merely picks up the pen to resume her writing until he starts talking again, slower and more comprehensible this time around.

when he’s finally finished, the room is dipped into silence. the writer struggles with the urge to hit the back of baekhyun’s head for coming to her with such a meaningless question.

“who cares what kind of colors you feel like pairing? wear whatever you want to wear.” “the last time we talked about this you told me to follow a specific colour pattern!”

she feels like facepalming at this, fully aware that he is indeed right. she just so happens not to like being reminded of it. it’s why she’s quick to give in this time around. “show me what you want to wear.”

when he pulls out the set of clothes he envisioned himself to wear (sieun is quick to cut in with a “did you finally score a date with the barista?” as a result of seeing the neat combination, thus causing for a light pink to dust the younger’s cheeks at which she grins quietly to herself) and she gives her okay, he’s excited enough to throw his arms around her as if she just did something important.

she has to hold back the laughter when he excitedly proclaims that she saved his world that evening.

“sieun, you have      ““no.” “but hear me out, there’s     ”“no.” “aw, come on! pretty please with a cherry on top?” .

multiple exasperated sighs later, sieun finds herself lingering near a christmas fair. which, she’ll admit this much, is lovely to look at it with all its lights beaming and shining while the snow keeps falling but sieun is sure that this is not the sole reason for baekhyun to request her presence. in fact, she finds herself wondering if agreeing to his invitation in the first place was a smart move to begin with, considering how she’s sure that the “only two hours, sieun, i promise!” are quickly going to turn into four and the immense desire for something warm to drink, especially if the snowfall keeps this pace up.

“you’re here!” why he’s beaming at her like she just earned another degree completely escapes the writer but she nods, accompanied by some sniffling. it prompts for her to tug at the beanie until it almost covers her eyes, although nothing can quite conceal her red nose.

naturally, baekhyun has to comment on it.

“you look like rudolph the reindeer.” 

“and you look like you’d prefer watching me go back home,” she deadpans with a glare in his direction but he smiles an even wider smile (if that is humanly possible) and begins to drag her around. albeit relucantly at first, she soon eases into the warm atmosphere and even finds herself laughing when baekhyun ushers her to a firing range, only for him to miss his targets three times in a row.

“you shouldn’t laugh at me, you’re not even playing!”“i don’t need a giant teddybear, so what would i need to play for?” when color rises to baekhyun’s cheeks, sieun’s confused expression melts into something that’s close to amused realization. “you want that plushie for the cute barista, don’t you!”

“shhh, don’t be so loud!” (something stupid like “if you’re so loud my enemies can hear and i can’t have that!” follows almost immediately but she’s too busy laughing at the stupid adorableness of it to pay attention.)

despite her giggling, the darkhaired woman quickly regains her composure before shooting him a look that probably already tells him as much.

“why didn’t you invite her? i’m sure she would’ve appreciated it more than i do.”

he dismisses her claim with a wave of his hand before shrugging his shoulders, like she’s supposed to know the answer already.

“did you even ask for her number?” “i tried! it’s more difficult than it sounds, so keep the judgement out of your voice.” “alright,” she nods again, this time around her eyes crinkling with delight at having something to hold over the boy’s head. “i won’t mention it again.”.

“can you iceskate?” “no, but the song is nice.” “is that why you asked me to accompany you?”

he grins, as boyish and wide as she’s ever seen before nodding enthusiastically. “exactly! now you can’t escape dancing with me!”

she slithers away with a wave of her hand, cheeks red because of the cold. “first, you have to catch me!”

“you’re going to be in trouble if you touch my stove without mitts,” sieun deadpans almost immediately, as soon as she catches the look of pure excitement on the younger’s face.

the trouble about knowing people like him is because people like him never know when to stop. which is not necessarily a negative thing or something to complain about but sieun doesn’t think he’s joking when he says he’s always looking for an adventure to run into      whether it’s meant literally or not, she’s not about to let him jump into this kind of spectacle.

“paws off.”“i’m not a teddy bear.” “no, but you’d burn like one.”

that gets him, unsurprisingly, quiet. for all intents and purposes, he’s a boy that’s easy to read and interpret, and although he would probably loathe the term like no other, he’s also predictable to some extent. but sieun doesn’t mind that; in fact, there’s a certain sense of comfort to his predictability. which is exactly why she keeps quiet about it, puts on the mitts and removes the cookies from the oven while shooting a warning glare at the other.

“can i try ‘em?” he’s quick to dash forward again once the oven’s off and the cookies’ scent are filling the kitchen. the childlike enthusiasm he tends to present her with is something that sieun has yet to get used to although she no longer minds it as much.

“sure, go ahead.”

and testing soon turns into eating them all away and giggling and her listening to another stupid story he cooks up before having to start over again because what are we going to do if we want a midnight snack?

“you are asking me about baekhyun?”

there’s silence. not the good kind, but the kind of silence where you question whether or not the other person’s soul has ascended to heaven due to their lack of a response. sieun isn’t replying and she looks every bit as shocked at what has just been questioned     any person passing by would think she’d just been told some negative news.

except, jiu’s sitting at the other end of the desk with a faint smile on her face while typing away at whatever article she’s been cooking up for the last thirty minutes or so, looking surprisedly amused at sieun’s unexpectedly emotional response. “you know, the boy you have been talking about? you bring him up very often.”

“i may have but if you also recall, half of the time i’m talking about how much of a child he is,” sieun sounds every bit as exasperated right now as she does whenever she talks to baekhyun directly. even though jiu’s tittering is enough to convince the younger that the original question wasn’t meant to cause such a harsh reaction, there’s no point in denying that her colleague seems to enjoy the energy with which sieun feels the need to address it.

so she’s simply going to flip the tables on her, “you know about superheroes, don’t you?”

when jiu finally proceeds to nod to confirm sieun’s suspicion, the younger releases a breath she hasn’t realized she’s been holding.

“minjun watches these superhero movies a lot. yejun sometimes watches them with him, when he’s not too tired,” jiu explains a little absent-mindedly. and sieun thinks that her friends wouldn’t really get along, if they met     baekhyun would probably have an easier time bonding with jiu’s son who’s just learned how to speak in full sentences.

although, and sieun will only admit to this begrudgingly, this suspicion doesn’t necessarily have to ring true       he somehow convinced her to be suitable company as well, after all.

“so you know how there’s always that sidekick to the heroic main character? the one who’s been written for comedic purposes only?” sieun leans back in her chair and presses the tips of her fingers together, as if she has to keep it together somehow. from across the desk, jiu raises a delicate eyebrow at the younger reporter while fixating her gaze on her but she doesn’t say anything to that, just waits for an explanation which is sure to follow.

“baekhyun is exactly like that.” 

jiu snorts at that and sieun can’t help but scowl at her friend’s lack of earnestness.

“the word you’re looking for is fun, sieun. he’s funny.” “he’s not.”

as if on cue, her phone’s screen display lightens up with the indication of a new message. when sieun leans forward to catch what she’s received, she sees plenty of emojis and a video of a cow slithering on ice which would have confused or annoyed her under different circumstances, or if it came from someone else. as it stands, the message is from baekhyun and with a resigned sigh, she sends back a response (because if she didn’t, he’d pester her for an answer) before switching the phone off with a huff.

“that your friend?”

“yes.”

and with a stern glance sent into jiu’s direction, sieun concludes the following, “okay, so he might be funny sometimes. but only sometimes.”
