mind stuck on the concept of sam deifying lucifer

to be clear like. forward slash bad. hashtag fucked up.

on one level it’s just the narrative, sam’s whole life being determined by lucifer and sam’s faith being broken because of lucifer and sam’s prayers to god in s11 literally going directly to the devil. and on another, it’s a direction the cage might have gone in--every part of sam’s existence was forcefully centered around and shaped by lucifer, and on the side, lucifer wouldn’t have been too happy with sam praying to his father or even saying the name. he would have been on board with sam having no choice but to pray to him. nonconsensual deification

running with this, post-cage sam is not able to let the word “god” come out of his mouth. he’ll catch himself repeating the enochian prayer for the morningstar in the back of his mind in Rough Moments. stepping into churches makes him feel like he’s doing something wrong even more than it did before the cage. whenever they come across satanists he has to laugh. in his mind lucifer is Him and He and Lightbringer. everything is bad

DON’T think about sam with his little flip phone in 2005 logging on to his email and seeing jess’s parents emailing him asking if he’s okay and where he went and what happened because they know this can’t be easy for him either and they want him to know that he has a place to stay if he needs time to grieve and they always liked him and they know jess loved him a lot and they just want to hear back from him because they want their daughter back more than anything but they’re grateful they didn’t lose two kids in the fire and sam forgetting to reply because he’s sewing up a new stab wound from trying to avenge her because you’ll be sad if you do

this would’ve taken canon in an entirely different direction, but i do think it would’ve been cool if the show had gone in more of an american gods direction, and it turned out that the reason all the major events of the apocalypse happen in the midwest/south US is because those areas are concentrated pockets of belief in a revelations-style apocalypse
