I think Jack Walten is a great example of a husband who really loves and cares about his family. Though let the stoic mentality get to him, where he doesn’t allow himself to properly grieve, which effects how he treats his family.
The scene where he calls Rosemary weak is an huge example of it. As while it’s a very shitty thing to say. I doubt he has any malicious intentions in saying that.
As I believe he’s trying to say that due to rosemary going through a huge mental break down. He and Sophie needs to be there for her in her time of need.
But said it in a poor way due to being a husband from the 1970s where things like therapy and mental health is properly being recognized and treated.
In this episode, Jack greatest flaw is him being in constant state of denial and trying to move too quickly from the death of Ed and Molly. Not giving the proper attention towards the entire family mental health, which is one of the causes to their downfalls. Rosemary due to being a grieving widow who mental state is shatter enough to agree to Bon’s deal. Jack due to him possibly committing suicide (though I’m not fully sure). Sophie due to growing up with the trauma to a point of taking meds and mentally blocking out the entire situation (not saying that taking meds is bad btw).
TLDR: The entire Walten family deserve better and Felix needs to be kick in the balls before thrown in a volcano.
