what makes the sauce so awesome | darcy & sam (closed)
Darcy shook her head all too quickly before raising the jar back to her lips and taking another lonnnng swig of it. βNo, no I donβt want to text him,β she said then kicked the freezer shut before looking to Sam, βHe was your friend, too, so you can text him if you want, Iβm not going to make you pick sides orβ¦ feel bad for whatever you do. This isnβt your problem, this is my problem and his problem.β Darcy stared at the floor between them and blinked back at the water fogging her view.
"No!" she said loudly, tilting her head up to keep blinking back tears. "I promised myself I was done with crying! I was done with letting him do thisΒ to me!β She paused for a moment before her eyes cleared and then took another swig of the moonshine. Yeaaaah, she was gonna be fucked up here in a few minutes. βI meanβ¦ Who said I even wanted him back?β she said, as if she had to defend herself for some reason.
"He had his chance!" she finally exclaimed, "He had ten yearsΒ and still let me walk out the door. I donβt want his stupid plans to win me back because it isnβt going to work.β Darcy swayed to the side and leaned against the counter beside Sam before staring at Samβs face. βI meanβ¦ I deserve better than that, right?β she asked him, placing the jar down on the counter, but not releasing it. βI deserve someone who would never have let me walk out the first time, right? Or who would have thought that one second without me would be torture.β
Darcy frowned, βMaybe Iβm just setting my standards too high.β She raised the jar and took another swig, having cleared about half of it by now. βDamn,β she said after making a face, βThis stuff works fast.β She felt a smile break across her face as she stared at Sam, and before she knew it, she was laughing to the high heavens and she couldnβt stop herself.
She probably laughed for a solid minute before placing a hand to her lips and then grinning to him. βI felt something,β she said, poking his chest, βWhen my hands were in your pockets.β
"There's no side to pick, Darcy," Sam pointed out warily as he watched her for any signs that he should be doing something other than standing there lamely. "He was my friend, but it was more or less like I came as a package deal with you, not the other way around..." Sam didn't really think he'd be friends with Tyler if not for Darcy. Not that Sam hadn't liked him a lot -- but when it came to Darcy? There was no contest. They'd been friends since training wheels. But then he saw her eyes start to water and her face start to contort and Sam was momentarily frozen, still. "Whatever's he's doing, whatever he's planning... It's not about him, anyway," Sam pointed out as he cautiously took a drink from the bottle he was currently babying, set on slowing down slightly as he watched Darcy take a couple more drinks. But he kind of doubted Darcy was really listening at this point, because as quickly as he could get a comforting word in, her tears had been replaced by anger. He sat back slightly as she fell forward to talk to him, a small smirk making it's way to his face.Β "You're gonna get awful in about a minute, you know," he pointed out, his smirk turning into a grin. Then again, she totally deserved to get as drunk as she pleased for what Tyler was doing and Sam had sprung on her. But that grin dropped almost immediately after she started laughing. "Never mind, you've already hit that point," he rolled his eyes, taking a swig of his vodka. "There's this thing that guys have -- you might have even seen a few -- but it's called a penis." Sam made a face, poking her right back. "What are you, seven?"
