“An adequate amount sure sounds like that’s enough to share with. I mean, you don’t want me to go eggless do you?”

“But if I give some to you, then Annabeth’s gonna make me give some to her, and then Chris, Dakota...then I’d have none. I’ll get you another egg.”

“And… you’re going to share it with your best friend right?  Because you like making her happy and candy definitely does that.”

“Okay, but why does everyone suddenly assume just because I am tolerant of them a minimal amount, that I’m going to share my food? Can I not just buy you some...SWEETS, instead? Why you gotta steal my precious egg?”

“My mom made me some cookies with chocolate and stuff, but I didn’t get an Easter egg… Wanna share?”

“That sounds nice, cookies are good...Percy, you know I like you an adequate amount but I’m not sure I can share.”

“Yeah, I think so. I’ve never been in one of those myself, but I feel like I’ve heard people talk about Victoria’s Secret sales before. Or maybe I’m just crazy, who knows. Sam’s underwear stash, huh? Why am I not surprised by the fact that this is gonna be a thing? I’m always proud of you, I just don’t say it that often. I don’t want that head of yours to get too big. Oh, yes. Silk is definitely your fabric. It brings out the sparkle in your eyes.” 

“Hey, man, no, I think you’re right...I’ve never seen it with my own eyes but somehow I think I know that’s a thing people obsess over. Because I’m a charming, lovely, innocent young man who couldn’t do a single bad thing? Aw, bro, stop it. I think we should leave our girlfriends or whatever and just get married, you’re my soulmate, I’m sure of it. Like, if we were in The Good Place, then we’d be together. I knew that you knew me, like you just get me.”

“it’s your body, you can do what you want with it. i’m not gonna like care if people have them. probably think it’s a little weird, but you’re weird so it’s expected. if you give one to my brother, i’m burning it. because knowing seb he’ll do something annoying with it and then i’d see it and the whole point was that i didn’t want one to begin with.” she didn’t doubt sam’s ability to go through with it, she just didn’t want any part in it, not that she cared, plus even then who was she to say he couldn’t. “of course you wouldn’t,” she shakes her head. “i could but, there’s something much more satisfying about not letting you be right. even if maybe, you are. but that doesn’t mean, i agree. but even if you were, that doesn’t stop it from being any less terrifying, especially when i could lose her forever.” 

“If you say so,” Sam grinned, “But I think Seb would be one of the people who want one the most, you know? Am I really going to ruin his life by not allowing him one?” Sam scoffed, as if it would be the worst possible thing to happen to her brother. “That’s dumb, I’m right all the time, you’re literally always wrong about everything.” He laughed, meaning it in the most loving way, she was a fucking mess--and he didn’t care at all, she was a cute and loveable dumbass. “You’re definitely going to lose her if you avoid her, Kotes. You’ve got to do something about it.”

“please don’t give me a nude calendar. like i could careless if anyone else had one just, please, don’t gift me one. though i don’t see how it’d appease anything either. it really seems like you’d be the only one enjoying that, and maybe like a few other people but still. if they’re trying to take you down it seems counter productive to also give you praise, don’t you think?” she rolled his eyes. she knew what he was trying to do and it was sweet of him, really, but she knew she wasn’t going to change her mind any time soon. “oh yeah, definitely, you of all people would know,” she laughed, pushing him. “she doesn’t want to talk to me. that’s the problem.”

“So, I’ve got your permission to give everyone my nudes? You’re the best, Kotes. Quite a few people actually, like Annabeth, Seb, Percy, Chris, hey, even Piper.” Sam joked, though he did genuinely want to make a calendar now. I don’t think it’s ever counter productive to receive praise at all.” He shrugged, loving the feeling that a nice compliment always gave him. “I do know, so you should just agree with me and admit you’re being a complete dumbass.” He laughed at the push, it was hard to believe he’d managed to get where he was with Dakota. They just got along so easily now, there was nothing holding them back anymore. “She probably thinks you don’t want to talk to her, so stop being a fucking baby and make the first move or you’ll both be stuck in limbo for even longer.”

“I never said that I didn’t like your hair.  You have very nice hair.  I don’t know.  I guess he’s too much like my brother for me to ever see him as attractive.  At least, that’s the only reason I can come up with.  But I know, right?  How dare I go for the two, apparently lesser in your eyes, of the Poseidon brothers.  Maybe I was just leaving Chris for you.  Look, I am among the least romantic, touchy-feely people you know, but even I like to believe that it was more than just bad breath.  I like the idea of true love and soulmates and all that.  It just doesn’t seem like something you’d truly be interested in once you started doing it, that’s all.  If you think you could really do it, then I believe in you one hundred and ten percent.  She was the most necessary.  Without her, there wouldn’t have been a show, and Gabriella and Troy would’ve never gotten to audition accidentally, and thus, the entire plot of the show would fall apart.  But it sounds like complaining if I do it.”

“Thank you, I’m glad you think it’s better than Olivia’s. Okay, but have you seen him shirtless? Because, you know, if he was my brother, I’d still probably be into that. But, alright, you do you, I guess there’s less competition for Chris now. Not...lesser, just...Percy’s cute but he’s not like hot damn. Chris is a hot dam. You’re a hot damn, but Olivia’s cute, you know? It’s not worse, just different.“ Sam shrugged, he knew what he meant at least. “I don’t know, I don’t think it’s possible to be destined to one person your whole life, people change all the time, there’s no way you could determine a person who could still love you, and who you could love, for your entire life. Okay, nice, I’ll do it. Sure, the character was needed, but not her character--she was so bland and boring. Aren’t you complaining anyway? Isn’t it best to complain to him so he knows to fix it?”

“you know, i definitely believe that. shame, they’ll keep wishing though.” she shrugged. “what? i thought you’d love the idea of having a fan club, and if i could be friend all of those girls for that sole purpose i’m sure i could keep them after that, plus it’s like a genius plan because i’d have a solid group of friends who would understand completely because they’ve all done the same.” dakota was never one to just take what sam told her and agree with it even then she knew what to say to turn this back around in her favor. “of course she’d need space, i broke her heart. i know her, okay, and moving on isn’t easy, especially for piper. she’s probably not over it by now.” she knew what sam was trying to do it was just extremely hard for her to believe any of it with an incredibly guilty conscience. “we weren’t best friend’s after that fight. you didn’t hear what she said to me, and the thing is, she was right about everything. it’s not just a few bumps, nothing i ever do, is small. i always make big mistakes. and it sucks.”

“I was thinking about maybe doing a nude calendar, that way everyone could have one and they’d stop fighting over me...or maybe it’d make it worse, who knows? I love the idea of a fan club that that celebrates and praises everything I do, not a load of women, and I guess some men, meeting up with plans to take me down.” Sam raised his brow, as if she was the delusional one in the conversation. “But she probably realised how fucked up the whole thing is, she doesn’t blame you for it--I’m so sure of it, Kotes. I think you’re pretty easy to get over, I mean, there are so many more cons than pros, you know?” Sam laughed, hoping she’d take it as a joke. “And then you isolate yourself from it and it gets worse because you’ve done nothing about it, all you need to do is talk to her.”

“Hardly.  I can just appreciate nice hair, and I happen to think that she has nice hair.  If you say so.  See, you and Percy say that but I don’t get it.  Maybe Chris is just too much like a brother to me to actually think of him as attractive.  Percy literally has no boundaries when it comes to Chris.  In fairy tales there has to be.  Or else the whole thing about true love’s kiss breaking spells just doesn’t hold up.  I didn’t even see the fourth one.  I doubt you could run Hollywood.  She was not annoying.  She just wanted to stay in her lane and do her music.  Go for it, honestly.”

“You don’t appreciate my hair--oh my god, do you not like my hair, Annabeth? How can you not find him attractive? He’s got amazing eyes, I could look into them all day, and he always smells amazing, like, I don’t know why. Plus he works out, so it’s not like he’s bad to look at, and he’s the nicest person ever, like he’d cuddle you all the time. Perfect guy, honestly, you should have gone for him.” Sam trailed off, he admired Chris a lot. He was the guy Sam would love to be, but never could. “Maybe the prince’s just had really bad breath. Don’t bother, really. You doubt me? Why is it I believe in you and you make me proud but I can’t even try anything because you doubt me from the start? I think we need to go to therapy for our friendship. She was annoying, like, ugh, such an unnecessary character. I will, but it’d be more beneficial if you did.”

she couldn’t help but grin, “yeah, probably, won’t get higher then that though. i don’t think. are you implying that there’s a list of girls who haven’t gotten over you that’s longer? you should give me the list, maybe we’ll have a meeting.” she teased. at this point, dakota didn’t care too much about the other girls, she did before, but now, she was well aware that sam wasn’t like this with just anyone, he’d opened up to her even after everything and she wasn’t going to let something so insignificant affect her. “i still ignored her for two months after. i didn’t even talk to her and i felt it so messed up and unresolved, it was stupid. i ghosted her like some dumb ex-girlfriend, but like piper wasn’t ever that, she was my best friend and she deserved closure or like an explanation something substantial. she was just looking out for me, taking care of me, she didn’t plan on loving me back. it was an accident, that i manipulated her into with a false sense of security.” she closed her hand around his. “it’s just if wouldn’t have happened had i made different choices. had i talked to you sooner.”

“Yeah, there’s a long list, I’m a very wanted guy--there’s at least three people in camp who want me but can’t have me and they’re not over that. No, no, no, I can’t have you meeting up and figuring out my secrets. It’d ruin the whole thing--you’d work out how to get over me, and then who would you hang out with if you’ve no longer got your meetings?” Sam always managed to spin things into his favour, realistically, he just talked a lot of bullshit and that seemed to work the majority of the time. “I’m sure she also needed the space, it wasn’t like she was eager to talk to you either. It doesn’t mean she hates you when you guys finally do talk.” Sam sighed hearing her list off all the reasons to prove her right, but he wouldn’t accept it. “Dakota, come on, she’s your best friend, you wouldn’t be best friends if you couldn’t take a few bumps here and there, and that’s all this is, you’ll get over it eventually. Yeah, and I wish you’d have done that, too, but it’s whatever, you’ve done nothing wrong.” 

she smiled, leaning up she kissed him lightly, before sliding back down, she didn’t know what she’d do if she didn’t have him here with her, she was thankful that he’d stuck around. “yeah i will.” she couldn’t help but chuckle, hitting his chest playfully. “how any girl get’s over you, is a mystery to me, like literally a mystery. i’ll have to ask her when she does or you know your long list of past hook ups.” she teased, finally having accepted the position she was in, one where, she wasn’t over sam, and she was definitely okay with that outcome. “that’s the thing though, i’ve hurt everyone enough, yeah? and it was my fault. i did that to her. i put her in that position knowing fully well that it was too much to ask of her, there was no way either of us would’ve gotten out of that okay and intact, and i put our friendship through that ‘cause i was selfish, fully aware that there were consequences.” she felt a bit weird talking so openly about the situation she put both piper and sam through but she knew she could talk to sam, she was making progress with him, she finally felt okay and not completely guilty for what she put him through. but either way she couldn’t ignore it and talking about it, facing her issues was better then not.  

Smiling into her kiss, he had never been a stay-in-bed kind of person, but he never seemed to mind it with her. “You’ve got to be, at least, like, a level 20 wizard or something. Oh. come on, it’s not ridiculously long, and only a mere few have gotten over me.” Sam put his hands up in defence, though wondered just how long his list was, he’d never kept count. “It’s not like you did anything with the intention to screw her over, and she knows that. You’re not a bad person. She knew what she was putting herself through when she accepted it, and I mean, come on Dakota, she knew you didn’t actually love her. It’s kind of her own fault, you know?” Sam agreed fully with what he was saying, as he felt like Piper was the idiot in the whole situation, not Dakota. Well, they were both idiots, but Piper knew exactly what she was doing. “I just think you’re being too hard on yourself.”

“i’d love that, actually.” dakota knew she could easily weld one herself, it’d give her something to do, but she didn’t seem to have any energy, and there was always a small fear that if she walked out of her cabin she’d run into piper and feel pathetic all over again. she nodded, “mhmm. you know me, small steps, extremely small steps.” she joked. dakota took his hand in hers, playing with his fingers, she hummed. “i don’t know. like…” she sighed. “it’d be easy to say yes but like, what if we see piper, i don’t want to rub anything in her face. i don’t want to keep hurting her.” 

“I’ll see what I can do.” He nodded, smiling down at her, with her loving the idea being enough to make him plan how he was going to do it, as he’d do anything to get her out of this state. “They’re still steps, we’ll get you there.” He let his arm wrap around her waist as he played along with her fingers on his. “You’re not rubbing anything in her face, I know it’ll be hard, but she’ll get over me someday.” Sam rolled his eyes, an attempt at a joke, or some kind of lightheartedness about the situation she was in. “Yeah, but I’d rather Piper get hurt instead of you, so you need to stop beating yourself up over something you had no control of. I’m sure she's fine about it.” Granted, Sam didn’t really know. He’d always try and be the better person for Dakota, make her face her fears since the outcome would be so beneficial, except he didn’t make it common knowledge that he, too, avoided Piper like the plague. He found the whole thing awkward, but not because it was Piper, but simply because if someone else was in love with Dakota, that was a risk to everything he’d tried so hard to keep, when he wasn’t quite confident enough to believe she’d choose him over someone else. 

“i think i knew that with the light coming in, but lying to myself seemed like the better option. and alcohol does help with delusion so.” she smiled up at him, out of all the new things in her life, she’d admit, being with sam, was definitely a good thing. “yes, that would definitely make me feel better.” she gladly took the cup from him. “i got up, to find the whisky? i would’ve gone with something smokier, bourbon, not scotch, because that’s more my taste, but i couldn’t find any.” she shrugged, and patted, next to her, “come here.”

“I’m going to buy you a clock, and just have it stuck on 10pm so you’re never guilty about drinking early ever again.” Sam didn’t necessarily like seeing her in the state that she was in, but he didn’t really know what to do about it either, so he was just trying to watch from afar, while still being close enough to help when she’d need it. “So, you left the bed, but not your room? I guess it’s a work in progress.” He smiled at her, shuffling to snuggle next to her as she gestured him to. “You’re coming to the arena with me tomorrow, I’m not having you spend another day indoors--it’s not healthy, D.”

dakota groaned, “yes. don’t make me feel shit about it though. and definitely don’t tell me what time it is.” she picked up the bottle she had under her bed and laid it out in front. “feel free to join me though, i have small fears of becoming an alcoholic. and drinking with you rather then alone sounds and makes me feel like, a lot better. well, a little better.” she teased, despite most of her statement being factual.

“I wasn’t planning on it, besides it’s definitely not before midday.” Sam chuckled, making his way over to her bed and planting a kiss on her forehead as a greeting. He picked her the bottle as he read it, interested in her choice of drink. “I guess if it’ll make you feel better then I’ll join you in becoming an alcoholic.” He sighed, refilling her cup for her. “Just promise me you’ve at least moved from the bed since I left this morning?”

dakota was sitting on her bed, flipping through her notebook, a cup of whisky in her hand. it wasn’t even close to night time but dakota couldn’t be bothered to wait. she was missed her friend, she missed when things used to be easy. as the door opened, she drank her whisky in one shot, and slammed the cup on the nightstand. “i wasn’t doing anything. you saw nothing.”

Sam had gone on a wander, a walk that conclusively led to Dakota’s door. It was something that happened raher often, but he never usually let himself in--not before anyway, when things were weird, but now he felt like he could without getting into a screaming match. Stepping in, he noticed her reactions as he watched her place down the cup while he waited at the door frame. “Are you drinking without me?” He accused, as though he was insulted.

“It’s got crazy body and texture.  How can you think that it’s not that great?  Percy would also probably marry Chris if they weren’t brothers.  Granted, he’d probably still just marry you, but his love for the both of you is probably close to equal, so I don’t know if it would sway him to say you have the better hair.  Not if Shrek’s her true love.  Then there’s no way she’d be happier with Charming.  Oh yes.  There was never a third or fourth movie to come out of that franchise.  Let’s be real though.  Hollywood would probably say that’s exactly why.  Gabriella was annoying, but Sharpay was worse.  The real star of those films was Kelsey, if we’re being completely real here.  Probably.  He doesn’t want to make you jealous by hanging out with me, so he’s decided to just not to that anymore.  Definitely not.”

“Are you in love with her or something? It’s whatever hair, my hair is better. Chris is a ten out of ten kind of guy, though, let’s not lie to ourselves. Maybe not, but they are brothers after all so I’m sure Percy has some boundaries with what he;s comfortable sharing in public. Is there such a thing as true love, though? I feel like it’s a loophole or something. I gave the third one a chance, but the fourth one just pushed it too far. Hollywood is dumb, I could run Hollywood better. I hated Kelsey, honestly, she was so annoying, Annabeth. Ah, man, I’ll sort him out, again.”
