started playing shin megami tensei 1. because lately i've been less interested in the types of games i usually like and so maybe i'll really like something i'm only abstractly intrigued by in a genre i usually don't bother with.

i am digging it. the conversation mechanic is kind of stupid and i really like it. it helps that conversation can do multiple things, like encouraging them to call backup for more XP.

i'm a bit perplexed by action order; it's not just a direct representation of speed stats and i can't tell if there's something causing it or if it's just a bit of rng.

i've also picked up a bunch of well regarded arcade shmups. i'm only dabbling at the moment because if i commit then i won't play any other types of games for months. i'm excited to try radiant silvergun and mushihimesama.

mostly looking at more bullet helly vertical shmups; the classic horizontal ones are less obviously appealing to me but if anyone has any strong recommendations i'd love to hear them.
