Trump has signed an Executive Order imposing strong, new financial sanctions on Venezuela. The U.S. wants to "topple a foreign regime without firing a single shot." The Treasury Department is issuing general licenses that allow for transactions that would otherwise be prohibited by the Executive Order. These include provisions allowing for a 30-day wind-down period; financing for most commercial trade, including the export and import of petroleum; transactions only involving Citgo; dealings in select existing Venezuelan debts; and the "financing for humanitarian goods to Venezuela." A debt default would likely push investors to try to seize PdVSA’s foreign assets. Two of PdVSA’s joint venture partners are Russia’s Rosneft and China. The U.S. emphasizes that "The Maduro dictatorship continues to deprive the Venezuelan people of food and medicine, imprison the democratically-elected opposition, and violently suppress freedom of speech. "The regime's decision to create an illegitimate Constituent Assembly —and most recently to have that body usurp the powers of the democratically-elected National Assembly—represents a fundamental break in Venezuela's legitimate constitutional order. "The United States is not alone in condemning the Maduro regime. Through the Lima Declaration of August 8, our friends and partners in the region refused to recognize the illegitimate Constituent Assembly or the laws it adopts. "The new United States financial sanctions support this regional posture of economically isolating the Madura dictatorship. "This will likely add fuel to Maduro's fire talk about America waging economic war against the Latin American nation (as opposed to the utter collapse of the country being due to decades of Bernie Sanders-style socialism)*." *This myth debunked here: http://houstoncommunistparty.com/the-reality-about-venezuela-five-myths-debunked
Welcome to another @culturestrike editorial cartoon.
Last week, white terrorists killed more people in the United States than refugees from countries included in Trump’s Muslim travel ban in the last 40 years.
In Maryland, a white Alt-Reich terrorist stabbed a black U.S. army officer to death. And in Oregon, a man stabbed two people to death after being confronted on a public train for his anti-Muslim tirade.
We have yet to hear the White House condemn these acts of terrorism by white supremacy extremists, as it doesn’t fit their anti-Muslim anti-POC narrative.
The last time U.S. citizens were killed by refugees, it was in 1977, when Cuban refugees killed three people. Zero refugees from any of the countries listed by the president’s travel ban have killed anyone. This means that the vetting process for refugees is already extreme.
According to the CATO institute, you have a 0.00003% chance of dying from a terrorist plot conceived by a foreign-born terrorist. This means that, if there were 10,000,000 terrorist acts popping off in the U.S. today, only 3 would be conducted by foreigners.
Meanwhile, ICE agents are going rogue in their attempt to boost their arrests of undocumented immigrants (particularly those who don’t have criminal records) in increasingly demeaning ways. Funding is going into the VOICE hotline, in which people are reporting crimes committed by immigrants. Thousands of U.S. citizen children have been separated from their parents, according to reports from ICE.
Anti-Muslim rhetoric is steadily on the rise. The White House continues to rework travel bans from predominantly Muslim countries (despite several failures). And yet, nothing is said about white terrorists.
It’s as though the White House and all their supporters keep banking on the idea that the least likely scenario in a terrorist attack on U.S. soil will happen in order to justify their agenda.

A Marxist View of Climate Change Danger - Presentation & Discussion with Marc Brodine, Chair of CPUSA Environmental Commission cpusa.org Sunday, March 19th, 1:30 pm @ Royal Café: 10793 W Grand Ave, Sun City, Arizona Marc Brodine will provide a Marxist approach to understanding Climate Change, the danger it poses for humanity and all living things on this planet, and some of the ways a broad world mass movement might save Mother Earth. Clearly, we can't wait for corporate America, Congress, or the Trump administration to save us. What can we do about the looming danger to our children and grandchildren? How can we move the American working class majority into the struggle before it's too late?? Artist Plastic Jesus began placing these sings at empty lots of construction sites as a reminder to people of what Trump’s immigration and travel band could mean in the persecution and criminalizing of people of color around the country.
Says Plastic Jesus, “The feedback on the signs are shocking. Because people think they’re real. A few months ago, they would have understood it was a joke but today, people have a hard time telling.”

Birddog circling
Eagle circling
I fly

Like an eagle at night
I'm circling
not worrying
about these
khaki eyes
I'm
drawing nearer
and the sand
is pulling me in
quickly...
I land
on my feet
from a dream
still circling above
They're still circling
they're looking for war
i'm looking for love

INDIGENOUS RESISTANCE: Social Justice Events at Unitarian Church, Tucson - Corporate greed and human rights violations by the government are a national pandemic. Here in Southern Arizona, Tohono O'odham tribal elder and activist Ofelia Rivas, a founder of O'odham VOICE Against the WALL, will be in Tucson to speak about the human rights violations and the impact of the occupation of the Tohono O'odham reservation at the Arizona-Mexico border by the U.S. Border Patrol. She will also talk about the $145 million proposed Israeli Elbit Systems surveillance towers in O'odham communities and the impact of the steel and concrete border fence that cuts through the middle of O'odham land, (which is home to about 35,000 O'odham tribal members), separating them from their families and sacred tribal ceremonial grounds on the Mexico side of the border. Co-sponsored by the O'odham VOICE Against the WALL, the Social Justice Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tucson and No More Deaths. The event is free, but donations to the work of Ofelia Rivas will be gratefully accepted. 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, Goddard Hall, Unitarian Universalist Church of Tucson 4831 E. 22nd St., just east of Swan Rd. --Michele Manos, [email protected]
