Who are we?
V-Mundi was originally founded in 2012 as a competitive TCG blog that used statistics to give its readers an edge. As the community formed around it, most players lost interest in the financial model of TCGs, and so moved on to tabletop gaming. As I became a tabletop designer, some of my games went out to be featured on the site. Most prominently among them is Digimon Battle Evolution—a tcg-like game based on an improved ruleset of the Playstation Digital Card Battle game.
Over time, we enacted community rules that facilitated cooperation, debate, rational discussion, and ultimately filter out the kind of wanton screaming and toxicity present in TCG communities. As a point of pride for us, V-Mundi is an open and accepting community for all genders and sexualities.
The Digimon Battle Evolution game was created in 2015 as a hobby by myself and my wife Zoey. We’ve released a new set for it approximately once a year since then, and plan to continue doing so for some time to come. Early on, the art was a bit rough (and still can be sometimes), but it’s a labor of love. We pour the majority of our time into ensuring the game is as stimulating, fun, and balanced as possible while providing deep and hidden challenges for the players. It’s not a very popular game right now, but I’m happy to keep working on it.
Games have come and gone from support at V-Mundi over time. Originally, the focus was on Cardfight Vanguard, which expanded into Pokemon, YuGiOh, Magic the Gathering, Panini Dragonball Z, Wixoss, and finally Epic Card Game (not a TCG). A custom set of Epic still remains on the main site, but not much else. Board games tend to be much more satisfying long-term in my opinion.
V-Mundi is now comprised of three main media locations: the main site, v-mundi.com; this tumblr blog which houses dev notes for the Digimon card game; and the Discord, where community members chat. Most discord members are not there for Digimon, but it remains our way of staying connected for the couple dozen that play.
