Hello WTTG fans! Been a good fan of this universe since the demo RIDES WITH STRANGERS came out. So sad to see that project didn't sail, as I was looking forward to it, but the other games made up for it!
Admitedly, I haven't been active in this community since 2020 when SCRUTINIZED came out, but after WTTG3 dropped I decided to revist my old interest (including my interest with "who- fucked-up-his-fade" tanner).
Which is where I bring you my O.C;
She's Tanner's daughter (don't cringe just yet)! I have an interest in giving favorite characters of mine children, perhaps because you really don't know a person until they become a parent. And because it can bring up all sorts of interesting discussions about how a certain character would be as a parent. Remember; some horrible people can still manage to be pretty good parents.
When I made Cascabela, I only had a few things about her in mind. So I decided to revisit her and offer some trivia: ♥︎
♥︎ Her name comes from the flower "Cascabela thevetia" or commonly known as "Yellow Oleander" which is native to Mexico! Some of my spanish-speaking friends might also know that the word "Cascabel" means "bell" but also means "Rattlesnake."
★ I contemplated whether or not she would know of Tanner's 'business side' of things. Of course, there have been times where Tanner's underworld life has leaked into his 'personal' life with his daughter.
I'm sure there have been at-home incidents caused by "workplace drama" that have given Cascabela the impression that her beloved father does some dangerous work (for money, she presumes), but her innocent mind has yet to fully unravel her dad's secrets.
She knows that Tanner is a forensic specialist, with a hand in pharmaceuticals, and takes great pride and inspiration in this. Whilst sneaking around the house and being a cheeky lil' child, she has found countless vials (a concerning amount of them being midazolam), hidden files, and syringes- along with other medical equipment that has only fueled her curiosity and pride with her father's "work."
She goes as far as telling other kids at school that her dad is an important pharamist or doctor. I'm sure Tanner has played into this, playing as a doctor if she ever wanted to play hospital.
Because of this influence, Cascabela has vowed to become a nurse , a forensic scientist, or surgeon one day. She found herself at the library reading children's educational books on health, before slowly climbing the literacy ladder to read health sciences books, then medical anatomy.
It got to the point where Cascabela has developed an interest in health sciences in a way that her peers her age could probably not handle; finding the "art" of surgeries fascinating, collecting medical gear, diving into mortuary science, having a special interest in autopsies / medical examiner reports, developing a hobby in experimenting with toxicology, begging her father to find her road kill so she can preform faux surgeries and autopsies of her own (with a respectful funeral at the end, or course)...etc.
This concerned some of the other adults in her life, but Tanner encourages her curiosity; after all, he rather have a "weird" child than what he refers to a "future ambitionless denizen."
Despite all of this, Cascabela isn't completely blind to her father's quirks. I don't doubt there have been times where she has witnessed her father's mask slip a bit, or came across things that hinted to something more violent behind the usual grin he wears in his face. It has startled her, but she has usually burried these instances in the back of her mind.
The dilemma lies in this; even if she knew fully of Tanner's actual work and nature, would she find it scary, or would the love she has for her father simply cause her to accept him as he is, and even pursue the very "workforce" that he is apart of?
♥︎ She loves those old flash games where you're doing anatomically correct surgeries that have been simplified for educational purposes! Her computer time has unfortunately been limited since she got obessessed with playing dress up & cooking games up until the early morning (She probably got caught playing those kissing-meter games before).
★ She is half mexican, but this brings the question; Who is her mother?
Truth be told, I don't know ! Head canons are welcome, but I truthfully do not have a face for Cascabela's mother, in part because I can not make a o.c x canon for the life of me. All I can say is that her other parent is Mexican, and presumed deceased. This makes Tanner a single father- which is oddly funny to think about.
🎶 A single dad who works two jobs, who loves his kid and never stops 🎶
Since learning of her heritage, Cascabela has made it a goal to teach herself spanish, and perhaps latin, because of it's importance in the medical field.
♥︎ She has a "stuffed animal" that is just a mixture of different stuffed animals that Tanner has bought for her. She's taken them apart and put them together countless times to make a unique plushie for herself.
★ Despite being into some grim subject material, Cascabela still loves anything cutesy and sweet. There seems to be a false equivalency that because of her interests, she would have an gothic-esc style, but she does not. She's a sweeheart with an sarcastic tongue filled with quick quips (thanks to tanner) who still loves fairytales, cute animals, cartoons, and playing all sorts of roleplaying games.
Since she is very in touch with all things labeled "girly", she sometimes shocks her peers and adults alike with her morbid interest!
♠︎ Tanner has given her several nicknames, spanning from cute to bewildering.
Nicknames like dollface, little daisy/flower, and 'my heart', are met with awww's. But nicknames like delia, opium, little bear trap, or little demon kind of have people scrunching their face in confusion. The nickname Cascabela does not like at all is Bella, because according to her, it sounds like a name you live to a little dog.
I guess I should also get to the part where some of you might he wondering how Tanner could possibly be a father. While I normally don't feel the need to justify making o.c's for fun, I thought I'd go into this a bit.
Throughout the games that Tanner has been apart of, we are -unwillingly- met with his oddly cheerful and enthusiastic attitude and sense of humor. While this is Tanner's way of taunting the player, the ending of scrutinized gave me the impression that he isn't that prudishly antagonistic as we are used to with the other antagonists in the games.
This isn't to forget the crimes he's committed, it's just a moment where we see a very narrow soft spot that we can expand on and explore.
I'm a sucker for tropes that involve an antagonist who doubles as a good parent, because it has you wondering how someone can balance the two without driving themselves insane with inner moral conflict.
When it comes to Tanner, imagining his usual sarcastic lines and taunts, but in a more fatherly-like way, was a funny yet cute thought to me. If I'm allowed to push some tooth-rotting fluff into this wall of text, I would like to believe that Cascabela perhaps maybe the only thing that is keeping him somewhat humane and sane.
The Claudia to his Louis if you will. I remember a friend and I were talking about whether Tanner loves her enough to keep her away from his work ethic or if he loves her in a way where he wants to see her as his protégé.
Being part of a underworld has came with its faults. On one hand, he has connections and money that provide guaranteed money and financial security to Cascabela, but it comes with little personal security. One argument, one conflict, or one sabotage is enough for his daughter's life to be on the line or to be used as a threat (which I'm sure, he would not take lightly).
Other trivia worth noting:
• Cascabela's age can range from 8-11 years old. I'm not aware if there is an official timeline, but I'm not settled with giving her a proper age. If she appeared in the games she'd appear to be in that age range.
