I can understand neurodivergent headcanons much more, because they're usually based on how the character actually behaves. Plus, the character themselves might not even know they're neurodivergent. But being trans is a huge part of a person's identity — often involving trauma from rejection, and (if it's full transition) a serious toll on health that would affect the story. At that point, it stops being a headcanon and becomes an alternate universe. Doesn't that devalue the real experiences of trans people and turn it into fetishization?

If you want a male or female character to have a different set of reproductive organs for some reason, just make it something they were born with, a mutation, or something along those lines.

Is there any justification for this other than people wanting to project themselves onto their favorite?
