This is from my Sokka confides in Appa about his feelings for Aang, fic.
Zukoās expression softens considerably, the smile on his face as he looks beyond Sokka into a memory, is one heās never seen before. Itās the kind of expression heād never considered the guy even had the capacity to wear.
Itās sweet, almost sickeningly so, and Sokka nearly says as much until Zukoās face hardens into the kind of determination Sokka had once thought of as deranged but could see as the thing which drove him forward. He admits to leaving his lover and it settles a sort of understanding in Sokka. A solidarity in doing what you have to even if it separates you from the person you love.
Sokka stops just short of saying, āIām in love with the same person as my sister.ā
Just to feel the words in his mouth and taste the bile that rises with them at uttering that truth in front of another person instead of a bison.
He doesnāt, instead brings up Yue and watches the way Zukoās golden eyes widen before he awkwardly settles on, āThatās rough, buddy,ā as a response.

the way sokka looks like his mom but tries so hard to be his dad and the way katara looks like her dad and tries so hard to be her mom is. ouch
itās like. sokka says he doesnāt know what his mother looks like but throws himself in front of katara time and time again. he comes up with plans and tries to lead armies but inspires and loves and guides five kids without parents instead. heās creative and funny and goofy and so so so full of love. and katara says that sheās been doing all the work around camp since mom died but all she wants is to learn how to fight. sheās angry at her dad for abandoning her but stands in front of a group of hopeless earthbenders and attempts to rally them with a speech. she tries and tries to be soft but ends up blowing up a factory to save the enemy. sokka wants to be his father but carries his motherās heart. katara feels like she has to be her mother but has her fatherās fight.
This, this right here is the perfect and most accurate character analysis of the Water tribe siblings I have EVER read. 10/10 say it louder. I want to explore this more tell me more write a fucking dissertation on it and I will read the ENTIRE thing! Iām going to pin this, Iām gonna tattoo this on my arm.
