She jolts, startled to find him waiting outside her hut. His appearance is unexpected.
He studies her. There is an uncomfortably long pause as his eyes roam over her form. When he finally speaks, it is with the same detached tone Kagome has grown accustomed to hearing. âI have come to request an audience with you.â
âOkay,â she replies automatically.Â
Apparently, her response serves as approval for him to enter her home.Â
Sesshomaru ducks his head to clear the doorway. Kagome follows, unhindered by the clearance.Â
He halts a few paces from the entrance, surveying her living area. Kagome stands by the door, unsure how to proceed. She and Sesshomaru exchange a handful of words when they meet. Their interactions are sparse. His reason for coming here is as clear as an overcast sky.Â
âSoâŚhow have you been?â Kagome asks, breaking the awkward silence.Â
âRin told me you helped her. I offer my gratitude.â He bows.
âItâs fine,â Kagome says, waving her hands back and forth. The formal gesture makes her uncomfortable. âIâm glad she was interested and wanted to learn more about what I do. Honestly, I should be thanking her. My clinic may have never taken off without Rin.â
Sesshomaru gives her a quizzical look.
âWhat I mean is Iâm grateful. Rin shared her experience with others. They donât hide from me anymore. They trust me again.â
âThey should. They owe you their lives.â
Kagome stares at him. She is shocked Sesshomaru caresâ even more so that he acknowledged her.Â
âYour clinic is open to anyone, correct?â
âMay I request your services?âÂ
âRin and Kohaku are already receiving treatment.â
âFor myself,â Sesshomaru states.Â
