Comparrison Of Approaches
Determinism:what causes behaviours?
Biological Approach:
Deterministic: Biology, genetics, neurotransmitters, hormones.
Behaviourist Approach:
Deterministic: Reinforcement history, environments, conditioning
Social Learning Theory:
Deterministic: Vicarious reinforcement, observe actions and reactions
Free will: we choose whether or not to replicate behaviours (mediational processes)
Cognitive Approach:
Deterministic: Internal mental processes
Psychodynamic Approach:
Deterministic: childhood experiences and the unconscious, personality structure
Humanistic Approach:
Free will: We are personal agencies
Nature vs Nurture: innate or experiential?
Biological Approach:
Nature: genes and biological systems
Behaviourist Approach:
Nurture: how we interact with our environments
Social Learning Theory:
Nature: Likelihood of a behaviour
Nurture: what we observe
Cognitive Approach:
Nature: thought processing
Nurture: life experiences cause irrational thoughts
Psychodynamic Approach:
Nature: unconscious mind
Nurture: childhood experiences
Humanistic Approach:
Nature: Innate drive to self actualize
Nurture: conditions of worth impact self actualization, positive regard A scientific approach? How committed is it to science?
Biological Approach:
Positive: monitor neurotransmitters, use of experimental studies, manipulate neurotransmitters
Behaviourist Approach:
Positive: objective experiments, measurable behaviours
Social Learning Theory:
Positive: research investigations allow for cause and effect
Cognitive Approach:
Positive: We can test propositions, but, mental processes are unobservable, so we must infer
Psychodynamic Approach:
Mixed: come aspects can be scientifically investigated, but there is heavy reliance on case studies and interpretations
Humanistic Approach:
Negative: belief that scientific methods are inappropriate for studying human behaviours as they are too complex for simple cause and effect

Some notes for maths :)
Iâm currently watching a Netflix series called âCall My Agentâ (in French itâs âDix Pour Centâ)
I just want to recommend this show to everyone - itâs hilarious, really well written, and Iâm already really invested in the plot.
For French learners/speakers, even though itâs a little fast, itâs great practice to hear casual French and match up the subtitles with the phrases (although not always accurate translations). For non-French learners/speakers, itâs just a great show!Â
10/10 recommend.
Welppp psychology is a bore
Would it be wrong to say that I'm actually enjoying a level maths?

Lesser seen french tips
These are a few things that i think might be relevant to language learners that i donât think Iâve seen on langblr! At the end of the day itâs whatever works for you, but i hope these might be helpful đ
đŒpouvoir, vouloir and aller (to be able, to want and to go) are really useful verbs to learn confidently. If you want to use a verb you donât know how to conjugate, you can often follow one of these verbs conjugated with the infinitive to express something similar. Itâs always better that than guessing a conjugation!
đŒwatch videos of french people speaking english! Most french people will still impose a little bit of french pronunciation even while speaking really good english, and this highlights french pronunciation that you wouldnât notice in a person speaking fluent french.Â
đŒfor me, reading simple YA novels written originally in french is actually more beneficial than translated english books that Iâm familiar with. This will prevent you from reading by assumption/context/memory. Also, french books tend to be more culturally relevant, and include phrasing and idioms that are more typically french.
đŒcontradiction of my last point, but try watching shows originally in your native language with french audio and subtitles. For some reason, itâs far easier for me to understand and i know many people struggle with listening to french. Netflix often has the option of picking the  language of your show, i would highly recommend this if you struggle to understand french films/shows.Â
đŒquizlet is the most effective method of learning vocab Iâve found! For me, writing out flashcards takes a long time, and typing in the answers solidifies spelling better than just repeating the words.Â
đŒif youâre someone who struggles with pronunciation, some people find it helpful to have someone who doesnât speak the language read aloud in it, as it highlights typical errors that a speaker of your language will make (and will probably make you feel good about yourself lbh)Â
đŒpractise just speaking aimlessly in the language, be it to yourself, your pet, or even just while thinking. Itâll help you practise coming up with things to say on the spot, and when you screech to a halt because you donât know how to express something, youâll know what vocab itâll be useful for you to learn next.Â
10 fun ways to learn and improve in a language (that isnât studying)
watch netflix in your target language - cartoons and disney films are always a good starting point
start a podcast about your favourite topic (tv shows, films, games etc.)Â
start a video blog/diary - record yourself on how your day went (donât worry - you donât have to post it online!)
start a journal in your target language
set your favourite video game to your target language (e.g. animal crossing)
write tv and film reviewsÂ
listen to free audiobooks on youtube in the background
fall asleep to whispered ASMR videos in your target language (search on youtube ASMR + the language youâre learning)
use apps like duolingo, memrise and quizlet (you could even create your own vocab course)
read lightweight (and trashy) fashion magazines - a lot of content will be available online for free
Le Petit Prince -Â quotes đ
Le Petit Prince (1943) is a novel by Antoine de Saint Exupéry, translated into English as The Little Prince.
Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.
When a mystery is too overpowering, one dare not disobey.
The proof that the little prince existed is that he was charming, that he laughed, and that he was looking for a sheep. If anybody wants a sheep, that is a proof that he exists.
But seeds are invisible. They sleep deep in the heart of the earthâs darkness, until some one among them is seized with the desire to awaken.
One never ought to listen to the flowers. One should simply look at them and breathe their fragrance. Mine perfumed all my planet. But I did not know how to take pleasure in all her grace.
đ 6. Tu as des cheveux couleur dâor.
You have hair that is the color of gold. Think how wonderful that will be when you have tamed me! The grain, which is also golden, will bring me back the thought of you. And I shall love to listen to the wind in the wheatâŠ
âOne only understands the things that one tames,â said the fox. âMen have no more time to understand anything. They buy things all ready made at the shops. But there is no shop anywhere where one can buy friendship, and so men have no friends any more. If you want a friend, tame meâŠâ
đ 8. Le langage est source de malentendus.
Words are the source of misunderstandings.
đ 9. Voici mon secret.
And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.
It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important.
You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed. You are responsible for your roseâŠ
âOnly the children know what they are looking for,â said the little prince. âThey waste their time over a rag doll and it becomes very important to them; and if anybody takes it away from them, they cryâŠâ
âWhat makes the desert beautiful,â said the little prince, âis that somewhere it hides a wellâŠâ
đ 14. Dessine-moi un mouton!
Draw me a sheep!
When youâve finished getting yourself ready in the morning, you must go get the planet ready.
đ 16. J'aime bien les couchers de soleil. Allons voir un coucher de soleilâŠ
I am very fond of sunsets. Come, let us go look at a sunsetâŠ
đ 17. On ne sait jamais!
âOne never knows!â
âOne must command from each what each can perform,â the king went on. âAuthority is based first of all upon reason. If you command your subjects to jump into the ocean, there will be a revolution. I am entitled to command obedience because my orders are reasonable.â âThen my sunset?â insisted the little prince, who never let go of a question once he had asked it. âYou shall have your sunset. I shall command it. But I shall wait, according to my science of government, until conditions are favorable.â
đ 19. C'est vĂ©ritablement utile puisque c'est joli.
It is truly useful since it is beautiful.
âWhere are the people?â resumed the little prince at last. âItâs a little lonely in the desertâŠ" "It is lonely when youâre among people, too,â said the snake.
đ 21. Vous ĂȘtes belles, mais vous ĂȘtes videsâŠ. On ne peut pas mourir pour vous.
Youâre beautiful, but youâre emptyâŠ. No one could die for you.
âMen have forgotten this truth,â said the fox. âBut you must not forget it. You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.â
đ 23. Mais les yeux sont aveugles. Il faut chercher avec le cĆur.
But the eyes are blind. One must look with the heartâŠ
