A few months ago, this tumblr account was banned. Not only was I unable to log in, but my friends couldn't see that the blog had ever existed. This was around when a lot of trans girls were posting about how their innocent pictures were marked as explicit, how they'd gotten banned, etc.
It took a few months for tumblr to say something along the lines of "oh, sorry - here's your account back!", with no explanation of why I'd been banned in the first place. Here's the post I made when I got unbanned: https://sadlynotsappho.tumblr.com/post/728298736442359808/where-ive-been-for-the-past-few-weeks
Recently, a popular tumblr user got banned, seemingly for the same reason I did: being transfemme. Here's their post (from an alt) about it that I reblogged: https://www.tumblr.com/sadlynotsappho/742642966405021696
This is all to say that this website not only isn't getting better, it's getting worse. Feature-wise, I understand all of the people saying "oh, tumblr is the best social media site, not because it's gotten better, but because everything else has gotten worse". What those people are ignoring is the recent hell that this site puts trans girls through.
This is all to say that I'm not coming back after this post. Thanks, @staff! You're somehow worse than my bio teacher, and my school's tech support team (who took six months to tell me "we care about your privacy that's why we're forcing you to use only google products")
I'll ping some of my mutuals so that y'all see this, I know my original posts don't get nearly as many notes as funny shit that I reblog. If any of you want to contact me, I'm @sadlynotsappho on Discord, and @sadlynotsappho:catgirl.cloud on matrix. I'd prefer if you contacted me on matrix (https://joinmatrix.org/guide/matrix-vs-discord/), but feel free to use Discord.

Goodbye, tumblr. You were fun while you lasted.
It's probably a matter of time until I get banned too. I started using tumblr after reddit decided to fuck over its third party developers, and I'm starting to realise that I probably won't use tumblr for much longer. From the kinda annoying things like tumblr live and making the website look the exact same as twitter, to the genuinely cruel things like nuking the account of people who's only thing they've done wrong is being trans or acknowledging the existence of indigenous cultures. I love tumblr more than any other social network because it actually feels social, unlike twitter and instagram, reblogging a post from one of your mutuals actually feels like you're interacting with someone, which is an experience I've never had with any app before. However, if tumblr is going to continue to wipe the existence of trans people off its platform while continuing to call itself the queerest place on the internet, I don't know how much longer I can stay on here.
This. Exactly this. There was the post, with the U.S.A. edited out of a map of North America, saying "thank god, it was just a dream" or something along those lines. A few reblogs later, people posted maps of North America with indigenous tribes.
I saw the post around when it was made, and then I saw a post that looked suspiciously familiar, just with staff-removed pictures. Yes, it was that post. Staff put them back eventually, but still, what the fuck? The fact that trans people are getting banned for no reason, that that post was censored, and more, is just inexcusable.
There's no good social media anymore. I'm not sure where else to get reliable news about the genocide in Palestine, so I might check Tumblr every so often for that - there's a lot of people talking about it on here. Major news outlets, from what I've seen, don't care.
The internet does seem to be dying, sadly. I don't know what to do about that. Physical newspapers are probably just stories paid for by megacorporations (although that's just me making shit up, it could be not true). I need reliable, non-corporate news somehow, and I genuinely don't know how to get that outside of social media.
I have an RSS reader set up, which gives me notifications for a few specific blogs I follow - @nyancrimew's being among them. I don't really know where to find independent blogs like that - I follow Erin In The Morning as well, and a quick glance at her blog shows that there's a "recommended" section - I'm not sure if that's algorithmically generated or not, but that may be a good way to find some other news sources.
Fuck the internet. Fuck all of this. Fuck that the only actual way to get news is social media, all of which is going to shit.
